D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

Fair enough.

Can you find an example of D&D 5e art where this is true? The argument that's being made is that 5e art is full of giant weapons. I'm actually struggling to find an example.
Yeah I have to agree. There's plenty i like and plenty i don't like about 5e's art, but giant weapons don't make the list. 4e, on the other hand...

I don't disagree with your conclusion, but that player "vilifiication" is as much that players are done dealing with GMs who think they know what's good for the players and they'll take what the GM offers and like it. At best an awful lot of people seem all too in favor of "take it or leave it" and some seem to suggest outright bait and switch.

The fact players are unwilling to deal with some of the nonsense they had to put up with for decades if they wanted to play does not seem a flaw in modern players.
Nonsense is relative. If there's an expectation mismatch, at the end of the day it doesn't matter who's "right", even if that could be determined. No one is going to have a good time.

Their sincerity is irrelevant; the associations with that word are still overblown at best. If you choose to use a word with a bunch of semantic loading, you don't get to be soggy when people take it as given and roll their eyes at you.
You do if they refuse to explain why they disagree. That's not a discussion, that's name-calling. No matter what side it's coming from.

0e and 1e was very2 sided in that regard. At level 1,it was very grim or very bleak (but rarely both). This mkes low level PCs very not heroeic unless they risk being one of the many dead who tried before them. However if they luck into enough successes, they hit a point where the mechanics work against the obstacles as the PCs have enugh levels, gold, and magic items to tilt the scales hard without risking themselves that much.
Very much as intended, to my understanding (and delight).

For me the split is infinite over-night healing. I don't know 3X well enough to say if it has superhero healing or not, but if it does, then I'd lump it together with 4E and 5E under that superhero fantasy label. Earlier editions of D&D very quickly developed into their own thing that wasn't really reflected in the fantasy fiction.

In many ways 3e has quicker instant healing than 4 or 5 does. Once a party member can craft a wand of Cure Light Wounds the party has access to 50d8+50 healing they can distribute in 5 minutes tops.

The GP and XP cost for that item was inconsequential compared to the power it offered, and I never had a party that didn't have several stashed around in addition to the vending machine full of potions and scrolls they had collected during their adventures.

Even so, 3e at least had status effects that didn't go away the next morning.
