How is Gamma World now?

With the release of the GM guide and the "monster manual", how is GW looking these days? Anyone have any insights as to the contents and/or quality of the books released after the Player's Guide?

I think the Player's Handbook was the weakest of the releases. The "monster" book is quite good. It does rely heavily on nanotech but I think it is interesting. The "tech" book was well done also. Again it uses a lot of nanotech but is quite useful. The GM's book is very broad in it's scope. Very much a meta-gaming reference. I haven't seen anything like it before.

The most significant thing about the new Gamma World is the fact that almost no one ever discusses it. It has been largely forgotten, and Sword and Sorcery will in all likelihood be quietly dropping it in the near future.

Which is a real shame if that happens. The new Gamma World is cool, though it does seem a little hastily put together in the Players Guide.
I plan on buying the other books, but am tight on cash right now. I
hope it continues, if it doesn't, we'll be relegated to Darwin's World
which I really did not like when I read it.

Here's hoping for a long run! :)

Er. They said from the start that it was a six-book series, like Orpheus, and they're currently finishing off the sixth book.

While I thought the GW PHB wasn't that great of a book (neat ideas, poor follow-through), Mutants and Machines is quite good. The tech book wasn't that bad, but I didn't feel the need to pick it up and the same goes for the GMG. I still think that combining GW and Darwin's World is the best way to have the "true" GW D20 game.

Sadly, Gamma World never seemed to do well. I mean how many versions did TSR try to put out over the years?

Gamma World never sold as well as D&D, but the earlier editions (1st and 2nd) did pretty well.

For me, the weakest book in S&SS's GW line is the Player's Handbook - the other releases (Mutants and Machines and Out of the Vaults) are quite good actually.

Have you had a chance to look at the revised second edition of DW? It's a mammoth tome filled with chewy post-apocalyptic goodness! :)

Hate to burst your hopes, but the revised/hardback WAS the one I read true (mind you, it was in like 20min at a store), and if a book can't reach out and Grapple me, I won't buy it. Let's just say DW failed the Grapple check. :p

GW from S&SS almost failed to, but it seemed very similar to the computer game FALLOUT, of which I'm a die-hard fan. It got a die-bump and I went and bought it. :)
