How long does it take to drink a beer?

A potion is, like, 1 oz., and it takes a standard action to drink. A typical beer is 12 oz. Now I've seen people just guzzle a beer in 4 seconds, but they're professionals. How long should it take a normal person to drink a beer? Are there rules for this?

I'm thinking if you have a glass it starts at 2 full rounds, with a Fort save (DC 15) letting you reduce it to one round plus one standard action, DC 20 to reduce it to one round, and DC 30 to reduce it to one standard action. If you have it in a bottle (and thus have that whole suction problem), it cannot be reduced below 1.5 rounds.

I can easily guzzle a beer out of a glass in 4 seconds; it doesn't take a professional, just someone that drinks every now and then. It is obviously slower out of the bottle/can without using tricks.

I think your rules sound fair enough for an approximation...though I think your save DCs are really high.

I'm also fairly certain that there's a clas ability called Drink Like a Demon for the Drunken Master prestige class in CW. I think he can inbibe a tankard or bottle as a move action..

4 seconds? Pfft. Amatuers. Professionals do it as a free action.

And further proof that everything exists on the internet: Buffy/The Fox crossover fanfiction.

On topic: Beyond Monks has drinking rules that served me quite well.

So, I've got to ask:

Why does it matter how long it takes?

The answer for how long it takes could very well be dependent on what you're trying to accomplish.

Finishing your drink while the bar fight rages on all around you? :)

I'd put it at no more than 2 rounds. Subtract a move action if it's someone that drinks often, subtract a standard action if it's someone with a decent fort save, and just a standard action if it's an F'n barbarian.
