When did 3E come out? I would say a good six or seven months before that if not longer, but I never posted to Eric's message boards. I was more of an IRC junkie back then. I have obviously since been corrupted.

I think I found it from one of the newsgroups... I distinctly remember Henry's signature and *hides face in shame* not really getting it, even though I knew when 3E was coming out.

*sigh*

Those were the days alright.

Indeed, I remember famous rants from Synaptic Dragon (he who should not be named), and long conversations where Sean Reynolds tried to convince someone (who's name I cannot remember), that a number of 2e kits were broken, and that it was possible to fairly convert most other to 3e. (All of this, of course, took place on the OLD wizards boards, and rec.games.frp.dnd).

Yeah, when you could access the wizards boards via newsgroup... I remember now.

And you just named him...

If it helps place it any, I remember Synaptic Dragon not so fondly, and that whole thread about kits was a riot, if only because it was blatantly obvious kits were broken and the guy just wouldn't accept it.

Therumancer! Therumancer! I summon thee!

Wow, waves upon waves of nostalgia. Fun!

For your elucidation, here's a brief timeline:

August 1999 -- Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D Third Edition News opened its doors. Metaphorically speaking. It was at mailbag.com, my ISP's webspace.

January 2000 -- Prompted by a number of people asking about it, I started a message board. http://beseen2.looksmart.com/boardroom/z/46117/ -- Look familiar? Scary!

Late February 2000 -- I moved over to RPG Planet, partly spurred by my ISP's 5MB limit.

March 2000 -- The 3E Midterm Exam. http://www.enworld.org/Eric/archive/3equiz.htm

May 2000 -- Moved to the new RPG Planet message boards. Those boards later moved to their own server.

August 2000 -- 3E released at GenCon.

August 2001 -- Eric's site closes, boards move over to EN World. They've moved around some since then.

July 2002 -- I write this post for the message board.

So, what I want to know, is how long have you been posting, when did you start visiting EN World (or Eric's site), and how did you hear about it?
Long enough to know that I like it? :D

But seriously, I was a lurker on Eric's site after 3e came out...I think I wandered over hear from Jamis' site to be honest...and I found Jamis on WotC's site. Just recently became an active member.

Honestly didn't even start checking the boards out until the WOTC contest. I'm glad the contest came along, or I probably would have never dropped in. It's a cool mix of devoted game players, aspiring authors, and the occassional big name industry bloke or hot-pants guru- Like a continous con without the crowds.

I started following the sight back in August of 1999, though I never even looked at the boards until probably sometime after August of last year. I am an infrequent poster at best.
