I start anywhere between 1st and 5th, depending on the type of campaign it's going to be and how long I expect it to last.

That doesn't count things like one-shots and mini-campaigns (like my two-month summer game), of course. Those can be whatever.

I realy like to start at zero level. That is for one seesion but it allows the characters to get a feel fopr their character and do experience the training their characters will need.

How about "it depends"? My current two games had starting levels 2 and 1, but the next time I start a campaign, I want to try higher level play. Maybe even give the epic rules a try. I am not dogmatic about having to earn levels - it is really just a matter of what kind of story I'd like to create.

Our high-level campaign began at 8th level, and the characters were so highly min-maxed that they were machines of destruction with little personality. People just aren't as attached to the characters as they would've been if they'd started them from 1st.

Between 1-3. I like a little bit of definition, but sometimes starting at 1st can get fun.

BTW, we don't really fight many orcs, either.

And with the ability to give orcs classes, I'd be just as likely to put high level characters against orcs as low level characters. ;)

And again, ditto.

You really need to start including some "It really depends on the campaign, I have no one pattern"-style answers on your polls there, alsih2o. :)
