WP, if you like Guinness and Sam Adams, I highly recommend Sammy Smith, which makes a wonderful line of English ales. My favorites are the Nut Brown Ale and Oatmeal Stout.

I also recommend Rogue's Dead Guy and Hazelnut Brown Nectar. Rogue might be harder to get, though. More thematically appropriate, though, depending on your character's class.

I've always wondered if the saying about Guinness being better/tasting different in Ireland is true. Is it, brunswick - have you had G over there and over in the States?

I can't answer for brunswick, and everyones taste palletes vary, but in my experience there is a significant difference. I lived in England for almost 7 years (but not Ireland). Guinness on tap in the States is pretty close. Guinness in a bottle or can, in the states, is horrible. I can't be sure, but I personally think this is because of pasteurization requirements in the states (pasteurization can lower the alcohol content and leave behind an after taste - just compare unpasteurized milk, regular milk, and ultra-pasteurized milk and you'll understand what I mean). It's the same reason other import beers don't measure up to the versions served in their originating countries (along with alcohol content - which is typically higher in England and other European countries). For example, import versions of Newcastle Brown Ale and Heinekin don't taste nearly as good as they do in England and Germany (I think they are both about 4% to 5% in the states - same as American Budweiser - whereas in their respective homes, they are about 7% to 10%).

Guinness on tap in England is unparalleled (unless on tap in Ireland is even better:)). Nectar of the Gods, my friend. Nectar of the Gods.:D

Certainly Guinness in Dublin used to be way better than in England, but that was back in the '90s, may be better now.

Currently my favourite tipple at home is Carling C2, 2% abv, recently voted world's best 'mid strength' lager. It tastes great, which is odd because regular Carling is pretty foul.

That's my "other" Sam - especially the Oatmeal Stout. When it comes to beer, the darker the better (for me). I like beer like my coffee.

Never had Rogue's, but I will look.

There was a great beer out of midwestern USA of all places - Goose Island Honker's Ale. Not normally as dark as I like my beer, but - wow! - was that stuff good. I think the brewery went out of business. Hmph.

Nope, they're still around. :D I'm going to enjoy a few Honker's myself after I get done with Thanksmas festivities!

Hey Morrus! That second pic has you holding a Grolsch, not a Newqy. That's something that you can't just expect to slide past this Dutchman!

I have to agree, I expected a bit more consumption. My group of 7 usually goes through a 12 pack or so, but it is really a couple of us drinking 2 or 3 and my brother, with the hollow leg, downing the rest. Over a 6+ hour session, it really doesn't amount to much.

For an evening session where I have to drive afterwards, I'll have a glass of wine or a pint of cider, otherwise soft drinks are the rule. For an all day do, I'll quite happily drink with lunch and supper, perhaps a pint or two in between, but I keep a close tab on how much I've actually drunk.
