Whenever these threads come up, I'm always struck by how many people equate having a few drinks with playing drunk.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it's a youth thing? I know in college I didn't spend much time drinking casually, it seemed a waste of limited resources to imbibe expensive alcohol without the express intent to get wasted.

Personally, when you cite an experience based on what happened in college, I believe that's offering up a personal anecdote as the norm.

Except that I didn't in any way indicate that my anecdote represents a normal standard. I merely offered up an anecdote that differed from Bill's representation of anecdote as standard behavior, illustrating that his implied standard isn't actually a standard at all. I offered up an exception to a propsed universal standard, not a standard.

We don't drink when gaming not out of any specific reason, simply were too lazy to get alcohol so we just get the usual assortment of junk food and such. Probably sooner or later we will, but not beer, BLEH! none of us like it.

Have you tried GOOD beer? :D

Bell's Double Cream Stout is a smooth, awesome seasonal beer that we tend to drink during our Dwarf Game.

Don't mean to threadjack, but if people judge beer solely on the water that Anheuser-Busch and Miller put out...well, that's just not fair to beer. ;)

My group is for the most part drink-free during our games, though not out of any rule. Most of them would to prefer to drink at other times (i.e. when thinking isn't required) and one abstains from alcohol all the time. However, a couple of people and myself do drink the occasional beer or two.

*Sneaks in and threadjacks more* Still bitter? That is our main complaint about beer. Thus why when it comes to alcohol we prefer sweeter ones.

Ah. Can't find that many beers that aren't somewhat bitter, I'll grant you.

Try a lambic beer, they tend to be a bit more sour/sweet than bitter, and many are fermented using some sort of fruit. If you're in the U.S. or Europe, you should be able to find Framboise (one of the most popular lambic beers) in most liquor stores. Framboise makes a great, low-alcohol sipping drink for RPing dinner with nobles/merchants, stuff like that.

My brother has had one or two beers while playing before. The rest of the group does not drink due to being underage. I am 20, but I will not drink anyways when I am 21.
