So, this is leaving me thinking about what gatherings of people I've been to that I think qualify as a "convention", and why.

I went to one gathering that was pretty clearly a smallish convention. A whole bunch of people in a hotel for a weekend, using hotel function space, playing a variety of different games.
I went to another gathering that was of the same form as the convention, but much smaller - the whole thing fit in one person's home. Do I want to count that?
I went to a third thing that was roughly the same size as the second, but took up hotel rooms and function space, but we were all playing the same game. And I don't mean like a Magic or chess tournament, full of separate instances of play of the same game. I mean, like, all of us playing in the giant instance of play. Do I want to count that?

So, somewhere between one and three?

I haven’t gone to a public gaming con since GEN CON in 2007.

I did go to Steel City Con in 2019 (mostly comics, cosplay, and celebrity meet and greets) and did one day of NY Comic Con in 2017 (never again).

I was hoping to make it to Pittsburgh Gaming Expo this October but when i went to put it on the family calendar, my wife already had a hold on that weekend.

Physically attended 3 gaming conventions (1 in my hometown, 1 in Gothenburg, and 1 in Linköping)

Virtually attended a tiny gaming con in Seattle. I GM'd The Troubleshooters. I have attended the con twice physically.

Attended the annual Book and Library convention in Gothenburg.

I haven't been to a convention on a while. I've wanted to go to a tabletop convention two years on a row, but it keeps consistently falling on the same day as the final of the Champions League. Not my priority, but it is a weekend when a bunch of my cousins get together and I do like that.

I would get to a bigger con with my cousin, but it has gotten quite expensive over time. It's fun, but $35 per person just to go is very expensive for a glorified flea market. It used to be like $4-5 about a decade ago, but the focus on bringing AA celebrities and a change of facilites have inflated the prices steadily. And well, the meet and greets are about $50 to $60 and some do require a kind of raffle on top of a high entry fee.

But well, I've managed to see DeLorean, Batmobile and I think the Ecto1 replicas over the years.

I'm hoping to go to an Anime con by Halloween.
