I've used all the monsters from the Monster Manual that I like. If I haven't used one of the monsters it's because I never intend to use it. :p

Yes, I do need new books of monsters because there are a few gems in each book, some hits, and some misses. I'm not going to use silly junk monsters just because they are page filler in a Monster Manual (a book I really like :D).

So I pulled out the MMV at the table last night and one of the players asked if I really needed another book, and had I used everything in the first one yet?
I laughed evilly of course, but then decided to see how how I had done.

There are 367 monsters listed by page number on pg3. Including a category like demons or naga, if you have used anything from that category in a 3.5 game.

238 of 367 or 64.8%

Is anyone else this A. retentive or bored?

In 3e:
aasimar, aboleth, aboleth mage, angel, aranea, archon,
avoral, azer, badger, balor, dire bat, bear black,
bear dire, Bebilith, Bison, Black Dragon, Boar
Dire, Brass Dragon, Celestial Creature, Chain
Devil, Chromatic Dragons, Constrictor Snake,
Cryohydra, Demon, Devil, dire Animal, Djinn, Dog
Riding, Dragon True, Dretch, drow, duergar, dwarf,
eagle, elf, Efreeti, Elemental, Elf, Fiendish
Creature, Fire Giant, Frost Giant, Fungus, Genie,
Giant, Giant Bee, Giant Bombardier Beetle,
Giant Constrictor Snake, Giant Fire Beetle, Giant Stag
Beetle, Giant Wasp, Glabrezu, Gnoll, Gnome,
Goblin, Gold Dragon, Golem, Gray Elf, Gray Ooze,
Green Dragon, Griffin, Hag, Half-Elf, Half-Fiend,
Half-Orc, Halfling, Hezrou, Hobgoblin, Horse,
Hound Archon, Hydra, Ice Mephit, Iron Golem,
Janni, Lantern Archon, Lion, Lycanthrope,

So 115 out of 367 so I believe more than 25% but less than 50%.

I expect to be adding an Achairei (sp?) appearance soon to one of my games.

If I added in ones I only used in prior editions that are still in the 3e MM it would go up a good number, and if I took out the ones I've only used as a player (races and spells) it would go down a bit as well.

Counting ones I have immediate and/or definite plans for, around 10%. Then again, I've only run through 60-70 encounters, I think. Definitely more to use when I can just get the party a little farther along... :]

No less than 70%. The MMI still gets more play than all of my other monster collection, due largely to the classic fantasy stuff (e.g., skeletons, zombies), the classic D&D stuff (e.g., Terrasque), and the collection of animals/vermin.

Counting Demons, Dragons, etc as categories, I dunno. But the original count I made a year ago, counting each category as seperate monsters (minus age categories for dragons), I got 44%. So I think it'd be a bit higher by these standards, but not too much.

Demiurge out.
