How many of you would consider playing an older version of D&D?

Would you be open to playing an older version of D&D?

  • No way. Been there, done that. D20 ONLY, baby!

  • Sure, although d20 is my first choice.

  • Yes! I love AD&D baby! (or OD&D)

Not a chance. I left D&D due to the older editions. And I'm not even talking 2e; I left prior to the release of that. I don't think there's a game good enough that I could see past the things I disliked about older versions of D&D.

I have no desire to revisit AD&D (I never played OD&D). I hate the mechanics, although I have fond memories of the adventures and the players. If I could recapture the feel of my first slain orc with d20 mechanics, I'd do so in a heartbeat. Alas, I've become jaded. :(

That doesn't mean I ever intend to stop playing! :)

I have a dream of one day returning to the older editions just as a nostalgic side project.

I'll try out Basic D&D, 1E and 2E all over again using the published modules of the time.

Interesting to note that, of those people who would like/consider playing an OOP version of D&D, most would choose Basic/Expert/Rules Cylcopedia Dungeons and Dragons over 1st edition AD&D (let alone 2nd edition AD&D, for which there appears to be very little love).

This makes sense, I think, given that the main advantage of pre-3.x D&D is its faster pace (especially combat) and lower prep-time for DMs. B/X/RC D&D exemplifies these gaming virtues far more than AD&D.

3.5 or nuthin. My only other experience with DnD was 1st Ed, and nothing remains of that book collection. If I'm a gonna play, it's gotta be 3.5.

I prefer it anyways. I have fond memories of 1st Ed, but then again, I also have fond memories of Duran Duran.
