Hey! this poll was a great idea to get a whole bunch of PC/NPC names generated for you! Here is my contributions: Treebore, Grimaryl Atyar, Grim, Jade Darkseid, Dager, Jalhar Atyar, Elegand Bristlar, Pakitani Gustovich the first, second, III, and IV, Gestafi Mendolez, Ronin, Callis, Metallica, Rahne, Target (Thats Tarjet, not TARGET!!), Jake Wilson, Jake Plasmod, Jesmond, Rolin Silvermane, Jalhar Cantrell, Illyannor, and many others i cannot remember, but I have most of them in my character folder.

You know, I can't remember most of my 3e characters either. Guess its because of how fast they level and get retired. Or how fast they die and get thrown in the trash.

Those were the days

In 1978, I created my first set of D&D characters, using a hand-drawn, then mimeographed character sheet. For some reason, I saved all of them in a page protector and still have them to this day, even though I took a nearly 15-year hiatus from RP.
Allons DeGuerre (which I think means 'we go to war' in French), a cleric
Sho Ironstones, dwarven fighter
Sly, half-elf rogue
Nickar, elven mage
Coliss, human ranger. These guys were the "Fiddlin' Five" and are now NPC's in my current campaign.

Since then, there's been a series of goofy-named PC's, including:
Chip the monk (doesn't everyone have one of these?)
the ranger Rodoroodeh (arrgh)
Morgan, son of Allons
Moe the Magnificent, Master Wizard (pitiful 1st-lvl mage)
Ru-de Mentari (say it real fast), a killer Egyptian-style cleric

I've been the DM for most of my D&D "career", so not so many campaign PCs.
So let's see...these are PCs I've had the pleasure to play for more than three sessions:

Reldo Thingirdle, halfling thief (2e)
Dusk Dunedrifter, Athasian half-elf fighter/mage/thief (2e)
Thaim, human ranger (2e)
Tikin "Squint" Mudlunk, gnome sorcerer/rogue/cleric (3e)
Halver Lendreth, human aristocrat/enchanter (3e/3.5e)

and currently

Garan "Forgemad" Steelheart, shield dwarf druid (metalmaster)/fighter (bodyguard) (3.5e)

Those are who I remember, anyway. :)

I've only been playing for a few years and have DM'ed almost the entire time... but the littany goes like this:

- Piromaetheus du Cinder, Gnome Wizard (demonstrating that point-buying to 18 at level 1 is rather a waste.)

- Von Tanko, Dwarven Cleric/Fighter (had all of the turning feats, but never even saw an undead...)

- Tso Wut, Halfling Shugenja/Fire Elemental Savant (demonstrating that the Shugenja spell list is awfully dang short)

I'm in the 4-7 range, I think... We'll see. I don't really keep character sheets, and I usually DM, though, so these characters are more like iconic characters that I've used variations on.

Locke (first character, slightly unstable conjurer, PC in 2e and NPC in 3e, 12th-13th level, high Int and Cha, rock-bottom Wis)

Thopter (made at the same time as Locke for the same campaign, a wizard who got to 6th level and dualled to Fighter, good stats all around, about the same level as Locke in 3.Xe)

Kelleris Fortunesbane (iconic 40th-level character and a background figure in my campaign history - never played him and probably never will, but he's fun to play around with - Sorcerer 20/Wizard 20 with Int and Cha 40 and an incorporeal, diminuitive Solar hierophant as a familiar, the Shoulder Angel, aka SA)

Loopmotten Scheppen the First (a sort of magish-ly inclined barbarian fighter; I've used everything from Hexblade to Fighter/Barbarian/Monk/ Psychic Warrior to Battle Sorcerer for him; regularly has a negative AC due to his fighting style, Caelestes Lumenitates - about 6th level)

Loopmotten Scheppen the Third (a rabid dire weasel improved familiar to a character whose name I can no longer remember master was 7th level)

Roywyn "Fnipper" (gnomish fighter/rogue with a 5 Con and layers upon layers of armor; I decided to do the rogue thing and stay way from their more melee oriented skills and abilities; his name is actually feminine according to the PHB; as is Loopy's come to think of it... Weird. Low level, about 3rd-4th)

Adauth Mirorwyn (bard, barely - he specializes in better living and monster hunting through alchemy, being prepared for every eventuality, and giving people bonuses when he tells them how to do their job, either 4th-6th level or 15th-17th)

Thomas "Giles" Gravorg (freelance monster-hunter and supposed author in a d20 Modern game; I couldn't resist having him go ahead and use a machine pistol, though - he's 8th level, and the nickname was not my idea)

That's all the ones I've actually played. I've had several equally memorable NPCs, so I guess that would put me over the top if they counted.

errr. I answered 8-15 and I'll try to prove myself wrong:

Belag Dagor (fighter) 2E
Thanatos (psionic) 2E
Jumjin Hexean (fighter-thief) 2E
Rim (cleric-wizard) 2E
Kz' (fighter-thief) 2E
Bathanazar Kelsingard (cleric)
Altamont Ravenard (fighter-monk)
Altamont Ravenard (diviner)
Oguilbon (necromancer)
Rapine Abraxas (rogue-sorcerer)
Uriel "Stirling" Sevtéline, Magister (wizard)
Borag Dorbek (fighter)
Ealindiliria Glorfilith (cleric)
Caramon Warinthorn (druid)
Jezmund Dargel (paladin)

15.

Oh yeah, I remember some characters. Some of them were quite forgetable (then again, haven't we all had that character that sounded like a great idea at the time but then... meh...), while others havea speial place in my gamer heart.

Leif Vignirsson (my ENWorld name) is a great hulking beast of a man that weilded a greataxe and split ships in two. Another was Snagnar Valdarsson, my very first character. AD&D's skald... Just wonderful.

Just two more (I don't want to ramble on forever...) Both under the same name, Grundakar Riscavolan. One was from the old AD&D days (which I will be gesaulting <sp?> very soon for an adventure of my own and the other <in homage> turned into a dragon... LOVE Dragon Disciple!

There are more... I just don't want to bore people...

Lemme guess - you're a programmer in real life, right? :D

Let's see - I said the 32-63 range. There's

Unnamed Elf Fighter/Cleric/Magic-User 1/1/1 in early D&D game
Henry the Lesser (cleric lvl 6)
Baxian (Fighter 9)
Grizzle GreasyGuts (Fighter/Cleric)
Percivilus (Paladin 2)
Filirw "Buckshot" Cormobel (Ftr4/Rog3/Halfling Throwing master 3)
Strahl Starkstrom (Evoker 4)
Teshwin (Thief 4)
Thomas (Druid 3 / Thief 4)
Linnaeus (Druid 9)
Leander (Transmuter 4)
Oloin Thistlefoot (Gamma World Mutant Kender Thief 10)
Pelisarus (Kender Cleric 4/ Thief 5)
Theryn of Nowhere (Cleric with Fighting Monk Kit 2)
Plaster (Troll Fighter 4)
Jhaerhal Ghitanathoa (Psion 9)
Jhalek (Fighter 2)
Henry (cleric 1)
Henry (Battlemech Pilot who lasted for half of a Battletech campaign scenario)
Ian Crownsilver (Bard 1)
Prescott "Scott" Grimes (Nosferatu Vampire)
Unnamed Orc Cleric 2 (In an NC Gameday)
Mugnutz the Blue (Orc Wizard 4 in an NC Gameday)
Joe Bob Hickman (everyman hero Feng Shui)
Leo (Speed Superhero in GURPS demo)

Well, not quite there - but I did make it to 25 by listing EVERY character I've ever played. For playing RPG's for 23 years, I've only got 25 characters to show for it!?!?! On one hand, that's more than I thought. On the other hand, I GM far too much. :D

Let me see here.

Cedric Lyonson (Batman-like paladin/rogue)
Berrik Mountainheart (dwarven druid)
Nerigus Danubei (Wood-caste terrestrial Exalted archer)
Dmitri Raven's-Eye (lupus Shadow Lord theurge)
Grax Stonecrusher (dwarven fighter/psion)
Jander Thistlebloom (elven fighter/wizard)
Silas Montgomery (Deadlands mad scientist)
Balin Ironbeard (dwarven tinker/fighter in Warcraft)
Alloren Tinuviel (d20 Modern elf Smart/Fast/Mage)
Alloren Somethingorother (elf lifeweaver, which was a priest-like mage kit a buddy of mine made for 2e)
Michael Bertoulli (a Catholic demonslaying knight in a 1760s horror campaign)
Me (in an ill-fated supers game where everybody played superpowered versions of themselves)
Michael Windbow (human paladin with the Windrider kit from 2e)
Celehad of the Four Winds (human priest of Akadi in FR)
Gabriel of Brione (human priest of the sun goddess)
Gene Edwards (human ranger/rogue/ixiptla/Jaguar Cultist of Tezcatlipoca)
En'kun (githzerai monk/psychic warrior)
Shosuro Tenke (human Scorpion clan monk/ninja in Rokugan)
Jerry O'Rourke (human reporter in a GURPS 1920s game, eventually became a werejaguar)
Mahzhen (tauren healer in Warcraft)
Quicksilver (liquid silver golem in a GURPS Supers game)
Ankhur (ghoul monk/rogue)
William Fishcher (human ecoterrorist with druid magic in a Buffy game)
Pal'thas (Delvian commando/priest in a Farscape game)

There are a few more whose names I can't remember (the monk/werescorpion I played for a few months when I was about twelve, the ex-spy I played based on Book from Firefly in a steampunk game, the cannibalistic Robin Hood druid, etc). That's most of them, though.

I DM mostly; I remember many of my NPCs.

PC names:
Buck Starchaser (Basic D&D, halfling fighter/daredevil)

3 for Darksun:
Achanarthis (racist half-elf fighter; hated elves, humans, half-breeds)
Iverx (half-elf merc reincarnated as a halfling)
Thoss (blind half-elf gladiator)

Hui Ma-hali-hali (TORG--Hawaiian sumo wrestler)

Bruc (2nd Ed; gruff woodsman)
Grenuille (Planescape--water genasi wizard)
Knotworth Ableblade (halfling fighter/cook)
Longshot (Xcrawl--expert archer/Hollywood stuntman).

Most of these guys were one shot characters. Achanarthis and Knotworth lasted a while.
