Not including business purchases and trades I still am in the $1000+ per year catagory, and I am not including my original art from some of the greats...as well as mini's etc...

I am giving my game supplies another shelf because I am running out of room fast, I love it and I do try and trade more with other companies so I can justify my habit ;) . Heck over the d20 years I have prolly given away more then $1000 worth of stuff, maybe I will do what I did last X-mas here on ENWorld, I had a blast.

Ok, off to look at more books and get some art in for my books.

I'd say with the WotC core books I'm around $200... I'm another $100 or so into pdf's (not counting the trades), and less than that into third party publishers with physical print stuff. (My $$$ is/was heavily invested into White Wolf...)

As far as my partner goes in Khan's Press, he's an addict and has (I think) just about every book WotC has ever put out for D&D, plus the Dragon Mag subscription, etc...

Ugh...if only....

My current collection is about say 1.5-2K but it'd be more if I'd have not thrown all my pre-1985 collection (started in 1978 BTW) in a dumpster in Fayetteville NC in a fit of I don't need childish games anymore idiocy.

Great collectors items in there....all the original books, and yes digalo the unrevised D&DG with Cthulhu in it as well...I miss them sometimes. I wonder if they are buried in the land fill and will be discovered in another age by the grey's or skinnies who will take up the mantle of RPG's as retro in thier underground cities?

Oh well one never knows....

Let's see... I'm probably between the $500 and $1000 mark. But I'm sure I've spent well over $2000 if you count 1e, 2e, and other games (esp. Magic: The Ripoff).

Do I have a problem? Do the other people here who have spent thousands on their hobby have a problem?

No.

My uncles have a hobby too- they collect motorcycles. They fix them, maintain them, trade them, and ride them to rallies. They probably own over 25 of them... and even the biggest RPG collections listed here can barely pay for one of them... and none of my uncles can be considered "rich". My father has hobbies as well- he buys golf course memberships and expensive sporting equipment... that ain't cheap. Nor are his occasional trips to the Indian casinos, where he sometimes plops down over a thousand dollars in a night. My philosophy advisor has a massive collection of philosophical and scholarly books in his basement- his wife catalogued over 5,500 of em'. He easily spent over $50,000 on that collection over the years. (Probably more like $100,000, given the value of some of the volumes in his collection...)

Compared to those kind of hobbies and collections, roleplaying is DIRT CHEAP. And every bit as worthy a hobby, IMHO.

My minis collection alone, which I started 20 years ago, is worth conservatively $10,000.

If I include all my RPG books (mostly D&D) and dice, it would add about $20,000 on top of that.

I've never sold/traded/given away/thrown away/lost/damaged beyond repair any mini (except the new D&D minis which I consider toys, not minis) or RPG book. I've traded/sold quite some dice over the years.

The short answer is about 700 bucks since 3E, not including stuff I bought to give as gifts.

I have an itemized list I could post, but I thought that might be gauche.

WHAT?! That sounds like you have about 2000 of them! Or do you have some special diamond dice? :)

I have d20's made from dinosaur fossils and meteorites so I have some $100+ dice each---I am a freak ;)
