How much is a "preview" book worth to you?

I'm willing to spend (U.S.$) on a race/class preview book...

Considering how the dollar is going, I can afford to say that price doesnt matter. This is ofc within reasonable limits, but $20 really isnt much, I almost pay that much for the pizza I eat when we play every week :O)

I'm probably going to pick them up just to get an idea of what the new rules will hold for development purposes. Granted, a lot of the meaty bits will probably be posted here he day their out, I like books for reading. I imagine if they are more than $20 each I probably would think twice.

The only 'preview' book I would be interested in buying would be 100% identical to the PHB, just released months earlier

That one I would snap up.

I'll buy them if they're fairly inexpensive, especially if they contain design commentaries and concept art and the like. It's certainly preferable to reading through a mess of "CONFIRMED!!!" newsposts on EN World.

Hopefully, they'll help me get started on my homebrew campaign setting.

I've got the same hope. I have a number of metaplot to incorporate into my setting along with the mechanical changes, and hopefully the preview books will allow me a head start.
