How often do you game/How much is too much?

I game about once a month, GMing and palying alternately. I'd like that to be playing once a week GMing once a week, especially in summer. I need to hang out at my FLGS more...

My gaming group use to play 3 times a week, but now we have all graduated from college, and found full-time jobs, so we only game about once a week now.

Last weekend I played Star Wars Saturday night, then played Epic D&D Sunday afternoon. Next weekend I will be playing Epic D&D Saturday afternoon, then Star Wars Saturday night, and then low-level D&D Sunday afternoon! I should be thoroughly burned-out after Sunday ;)

I would say that you shouldnt roleplaying more than twice a week.

ah geeze, i can't believe i totally forgot the game i'm GMing!!

so i'm actually gaming twice a week (play in one, GM the other), though the game i GM is on IRC and we only meet for about 3 - 3 1/2 hours per week.

I DM twice a week for 6-7 hours. In the old days I gamed 3 out of the 5 weekdays for 3-4 hours and then did the 12-24 hours sprints on the weekends.

Back in High School- 2-3 times a week for 6-8 hours each time. Usually one of those sessions was on a Sat night. Yes, we used to blow off dates with girls to game. :D

Undergrad- Once a week on Saturdays, starting at noon and ending when we dropped from exhaustion (around midnight to 3 am). Had to be a little more responsible since grades actually count for something in college.

Grad school- Once a month for an entire weekend (18-24 hours of total gaming). We get a lot done, but we have to be MUCH more focused than we were in previous years.

Of the three conditions, I think I preferred my undergrad days. We played often enough to get a fix, but not so often to get sick of it. We also had the extra time to horse around and come up with some truly bizarre and innovative play, which it seems like we don't get to now. :(

Quite a bit now that I think about it. Especially since I got a wife and little one.

Every other Friday we play Rifts.

Every other Saturday (daytime) we play FR. Usually we start around 9:30 am and go to about 3:30.

Saturday nights I go to another group that starts at 7 and plays to 11. Everyone takes a turn and DMs in that group. Two guys switch off every week. Then we have a Star Wars game that we play if someone can't make it for some reason or another.

I couldn't DM more than once a week for fear of burning out. I would like to play that often, but I am only involved with one group as of just recently that only plays 1-2 times per month. People have all sorts of schedules, but I think the easiest to do is arrange for a specific day a week at a good time and go with it. For me, being able to plan ahead is key, and knowing that every monday night I want to be gaming, I will make arrangements to keep that night open if I can.

ITs too much when you start to neglect your kids, personal hygiene, school work, job, etc.. When these things start to self destruct because of gaming then you would need to sit back and take stock of your situation and start to think about what your priorities should be.

If you game 4 times a week and none of these things happens then its not too much.

But other than that....

;)

Once a week, or once every two weeks is plenty of time running games for me. I spend lots of time away from the table prepping for games and that makes up for not playing more often. :)
