Humans as monsters - many varieties needed

I think I remember one of the podcasts mentioning they'd be an entry for humans in the monster manual. But given that many DMs like to run city adventures and such, and low-magic campaigns, I am hoping the entry will provide a lot of variety in types of "human monsters" such as guards, thugs, nobles, mages, priests, etc. and warriors with many different fighting styles based on different primary and secondary weapons, and with different combat abilities so that you can have many different and interesting battles with humans that don't get too repetitive.

If this is not provided in the Monster Manual, I hope third party publishers fill this need with a whole book of NPC type human and other player character race "monsters".

1. Peasants (farmers, serfs, children, rioting mobs, etc.).
2. Militias (armed farmers, militiamen).
3. City guards.
4. Soldiers.
5. Noblemen and women.
6. Outlaws.
7. Elite soldiers.
8. Bounty hunters.
9. Border guards.
10. A couple of each class - thieves, mages, priests, knights, hunters, lieutenants, bodyguards and witches.

It's hard to think of what else would be needed.

I know the Monsters and More prerelease collection definitely included write-ups for Human Bandit, Human Berserker, Human Guard and Human Mage. I'm hoping that with enough examples, it will be easy to level up and simply add a few distinctive abilities for new NPCs.

I really want nation or region specific human monsters for the campaign settings. Hopefully each one will get an MM-like entry in campaign guides, e.g., the Corymr entry includes purple dragons and royal wizards and such.

You've also got Human Rabble via Keep on the Shadowfell, so that takes care of your peasant fodder as well. Do you really need stats for Human Nobles though? It seems rather self-explanatory - they have Diplomacy, Insight and Bluff, they're not minions but they're not tough (most likely) and they probably can swing a sword with a small modicum of skill.

I agree it should be easy for DM's to create variations, but it would still be nice to get a bunch of variations already created when you need to throw together a city encounter on the spot.

I look forward to the easy variations of this. A veteran soldier who spends some time in court? Take the stats for human veteran and add "Diplomacy +12."

Though I agree that humans, even more than other basic races, need plenty of coverage. Campaign settings vary, but humans are almost always the most commonly encountered NPC race.

Slovenly trulls
Brazen strumpets
Cheap trollops
Typical streetwalkers
Wanton wenches
Haughty courtesans
Aged madams
Wealthy procuresses (sp?)
Sly pimps
Rich panderers

I hope instead for solid NPC rules in the DMG and not too many "Human Monsters"in the MM 3-4 pages can be enough to have some useful sample.
