I love this place, but I have to laugh at some of the anal retentive people we have, now I have to admit I am prolly one of them, but still----I have seen people grab different terms and bring in historical backgrounds to justify what they meant. I have seen a creek vs. Creek in a thread, and more--- c'mon you know what I am talking about.

I am not upset about this and people get crazy when I correct them when they are doing something "not as correct as I would like" but we are a crazed bunch of anal retentive folks and I would not want to be anywhere else

But is it me or do we go close to the edge and cross it on being as correct as googley* possible?

Also one of my favorite things I used to say to me ex-wife (read this and you will know why she is an ex) is " I am not saying you are wrong I just know I am right".

* googley (v) to use google search engine to find "proof" that your side of the argument is correct.

edit: "smiley" corrected to English standard spelling rules, however I maintain that "smily" holds true to the word's original Maui roots.

Try isopropyl alcohol.

The reason we appear anal is that we each have a small number of pet peeves we feel strongly about and (sometimes) have knowledge of. Multiplied by the large number of people on these boards and you get a big number of pet peeves. That's not to say that each of us isn't relaxed about certain things. It's just that people tend not to post about things they don't care/know about.

For example, let's say that there are 10,000 people on these boards. Perhaps only 100 of them care whether female dwarves have beards or not. Fifty may feel strongly one way and 50 the other. So if you say something against female dwarves having beards, you can expect to get slammed by 50 opponents. That may seem like a lot if you're at the receiving end, but compared to the number of posters who don't care it's not that many.
