I almost bought an Avalanche Press book

AP covers

I'll admit that I own two books from Avalanche Press. While yes, they might need a different track on covers, I like them. The armor(what little there is) they wear has to be enchanted, only way to have a chainmail bikini and not get wasted.

In all honesty,

AP's covers don't really bother me because it features scantily clad girls. They are just usually cheesy and inappropriate. Bikini armor is silly (and tiring, we've seen them since the 70's, time to move on). General details are silly (look at the way the girl wield her bow on that Doom of Odin cover!). Accessorizing is silly (on the China book, the girl carry a japanese sword). On the Odin and Viking books, exposed skin should be a cold blue, with coldburned black streaks, not an healthy pinkish tone.

Hey, if they did a little research, they would have a good pretext to display boobies on the Egypt book -- noble Egyptian women in these days weared skirts rather than robes. However, that would have supposed getting her a decent long skirt, rather than a string.

But no, they stick with their miniloincloth and minibrassiere scheme. Which is rather alien to the settings. Brassieres and panties are less old than most people think.

Really? Well, I haven't bought any of their books either since 3e first came out. I didn't like the ones I bought because they required too much reworking. I guess the cheesecake doesn't really differentiate AP.

Would they be entitled to give one? It's just their cover art of what they wanted, and asked by a non-consumer of their products. There's no basis for it other then, It's semi-softcore porn.

kluge, its that kind of bigotted judgement that results in Americans being hated the world over. Do you know anything at all about Japan? Apparently not. Yet you choose to pass judgement on the entire country simply because sexuality is viewed and interpreted differently over here, all the while making up ridiculous stories to further your "opinion". You are the stereotypical "ugly American", thinking that your country is superior to everyone else's.

You just revealed your entire hand on this whole issue. It's not that you're offended on the behalf of women here, it's just that you're flat-out intolerant.

Incidently, I'm also an American, born and raised with pride in the USA. I'm here studying abroad, and just changed my location listing to reflect that. Guess you can't blame a foreign country for how I feel now, can you?

I'm not a woman, no, and incidently, I'm not "so sure" about that. I posted a conditional modifier in that sentence you quoted me on, saying "I don't think its offensive to women" and not "I'm sure it is not offensive to women".

That said, I'm basing that opinion on the women I've known and talked to. They don't seem to be genuinely offended by such artwork when the topic has come up, though they also don't take it too seriously either. There was much eye-rolling done.

Thanks for posting the clarification about the revised piece of art. I guess I was a bit too hasty to judge there. Sorry about that, I just can't stand seeing what I think is a good thing being altered by the masses - the result of too many "one against an army" flicks.
