D&D (2024) I am so torn [UPDATE: I bought it]

doesn’t really explain the holdup for the 3e SRD though
Sure it does. The aren't just going to dump the 3e SRD into CC, they said that in the beginning. They want to go through it first. That hasn't been a priority, so it hasn't happened. If it is still there plan to release the 3e SRD, it will come after the 5.2 SRD, which will come after all 3 2024 core books are released. That has been their story for months. Will it happen, we will see!

it has been written years ago, they had a year plus to go through it. They are not waiting on stuff, like they do for the 2024 SRD, so no, there is no reason other than disinterest on their part

I mean, I get it, releasing it under CC has no value to WotC (unlike the 2024 SRD), but that still does not mean there is any other reason for them slow-walking it but indifference

they definitely do, no question about it. You do not pour tens of millions into it, which is easily a magnitude more than anyone else, and shoot for less
Wait, do you think that this is a zero sum game for WotC? That isn't how most businesses operate. They can't.

That is a reason, but not the only reason. Does it really matter if they have low interest if it gets released eventually? Is there a timeframe that is too late?

not sure I understand the question, I said given the amount of money they invest in their VTT they are not aiming for it to be a niche product.

You do not outspend all other VTTs combined by a factor of 10 and are happy if you get a 15% market share with that

Is the zero sum that you try to get players from other VTTs? No, it is not entirely zero sum, but they are not getting to #1 without taking players away from the others as well. Just like you do not become the #1 car manufacturer (as a new kid on the block too…) without taking sales from the competition
