And no, I'm not talking about the warrior women. Does anybody know a better site to order from, one that doesn't commit forcible, monetary rape? I ordered Legions of Hell, Armies of the Abyss, and Monsters of Faerun, on Monday, and paid for one-day shipping. As of 11 AM EST, Thursday(Today) they still haven't arrived, in fact, aren't even supposed to ship, according to the website, until tomorrow, so I cancelled the order. Is there a better place to order books from(I can't find any of those books in my "Not so Friendly Local Gaming Store", so I'm stuck using the net), preferrably a site where they don't pants me and bend me over a table like Amazon does with shipping charges(for 3 friggin books: $21 and change).

yeah, how about ordering from the place you come to for help?

and how about stepping back on the rape analogies...i am sure there are folks who see "forcible rape" as a bit more than letting you voluntarily give money to huge behemoth companies.

Alright, what I was referring to as rape is the tendency(I aksed a few IRL friends who've ordered off of amazon, and they've experienced similar problems) to take your money, and then just putz around, and get you your order "when they feel like it". As I said, I can't believe that they hadn't shipped my order out on TUESDAY, the day after I ordered and payed over 21 dollars extra for 1-day shipping.

But sorry if I was offensive with the rape analogy.

P.S. Herald: Glad to see another guy who got Gauntlet Adventurer around here. I need food badly, hopefuly my pizza will arrive soon.

well- if your only problem is that they don't ship same day- then you have it easy.

When ELH came out- Buy.com was ofering it for $12. They received an influx of orders, and never fulfilled them. Then upped the price to $22, and those people had to wait too. Some lucky joe's got their books, but from the 150 posts, only 10 got their books, and like three to five weeks later. They said that getting 80% off a book was worth the wait- seeing as their group wasn't reaching epic for a couple months anyways.

I've had pretty much that same experience with everything I've ordered from Amazon, especially if it's a pre-order. You'd think that if you order something a month ahead of time, they'd be able to check how many pre-orders they have and order at least that many copies of the book, but no. I always get frustrated and end up cancelling my order. Besides, I get 20% off at my FLGS, so why bother with the frustration of Amazon?

It is your expectation that is off as much as Amazon's poor service. In my experience, the days from order to ship are about 1 more day than they tell you. If one product says 3-4 days, it could be a week. My need is usually not immediate so it does not bother me. I have changed my expectations and now I am not bothered if it takes a few extra days.

You will have this problem at one time or another with all Internet or catalog orders. Inventory is a difficult thing to balance and most of them try their best.

Amazon (like all online merchants that are in compliance with US law) doesn't charge you until things actually ship, and won't let you cancel an order after it's shipped.

Since you could cancel the order, it obviously hadn't shipped. My guess is that you ordered at least one item that wasn't in stock (and if the item doesn't say "usually ships in 24 hours", it's not in stock or is a new item that hasn't reached its street date yet), and you had set up your order to use the smallest number of shipments possible.

Other than the inexplicable delays with preorders (the only pre-order that shipped on the street date for me was Robert Jordan's Winter's Heart, but I'm too impatient with those now; I'm picking up Crossroads of Twilight from my friendly local bookstore), and sometimes odd decisions on whether or not to split an order into multiple shipments (especially when a ship date is pushed back), I've been extremely happy with Amazon.
