I think I've got the deal of the thread so far:

About 7 years ago, I wander into a used bookstore, and they've got a handful of RPG books, 2 of which are near-mint Deities & Demigods.

1 of them was the first printing.

Both were $5.

I left with one of them.

:D
You only bought one? :D

I can go one better, at least on price. Garage sale, 1999, $3. Appears to be a second printing; except for a crayon scribble on a blank page, it's in fantastic shape. It was this garage sale (where I also got the 1st ed. MM and FF at $3 each) that led me back to role-playing games.

My original copy is a first printing, but does have a few scuff marks on it.

And I've got a fifth printing, but the cover looks just like the first printing--there is no "color shift toward blue" on the cover art.

My friend's story dominates all yours....He got the Cthulloid, and everything else version in good condition (except for a lack of spine) a couple years ago at a yard sale for 75 cents.

Dumb question - how do you tell what printing the book is? For most books it is listed on the first page - for the D&D that I have, I can not find it anywhere...

I think I friend of mine *might* have a copy of this book. Then again, it might be the nonillegal one. I'll have to check next time I'm over at his house...

Use the link B posted above:

http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/Deities.html

Check to see if the book has the Cthulhu & Melnibonean mythoi.

Then check to see if the "thanks to Chaosium" bit is in the front of the book (at the bottom of page 4, in the "Credits & Acknowledgements" section). Using the link above, that will help you narrow down which version you have.

I've got a second printing in really good shape, got it at my local game shop a couple years ago. They have it in stock from time to time (in the used section, of course). I haven't checked recently, though.
