A cost for diagonal movement only makes any sense to begin with if playing on a square grid: for theater of the mind play, it is absurd.

And even if it "makes sense" from a physics point of view, playing in a non-euclidean world is just vastly, vastly easier when you start dealing with 3-D combats and flying opponents. Having to calculate the "actual" distance an enemy is away if they are 45 ft away to the north-east while 35 ft in the air is just not worth it compared to saying "45 ft away, that is long range on your thrown weapon"

New question:
On D&D Beyond they say Warrior of Mercy Monk can now only use Flurry of Healing Hands a number of times equal their Wisdom Modifier per Logn Rest, except...2014 Mercy Monk does not have an ability named this way, just Flurry fo healign and Harm. Am I correct to assume this refers to healing ability of the Flurry of Healing and Harm?

lv11 feature, Flurry of Healing And Harm, no focus cost for Harm/Heal during Flurry, can replace multiple attacks with Heal.

It's a really tame lv11 feature, because you're past the Ki-starved phase of your life by then (and base lv3 Heal already allowed you to replace one attack of a Flurry at no extra cost).

'You can use these benefits a total number of times equal to Wismod...' which to me reads like 'you replaced 3 attacks with 3 heals, that's 3 uses'. I think that practically, unless you're needed for an emergency heal right now, this is just a 'you get this many free Hand of Harms per day when flurrying'.

Heh... the first time I read about the rule in 4e, I winced. After the first session of play, I didn't care anymore. It works fine on the typical scale of a D&D combat.
