I've been saying it alot over the past several years.

Looking through my PDF of AS&SH this morning, I actually said it to myself under my breath.

There certainly was a gigantic pile of dogcrap through early D20/3.X's life, but these days there is so much good new stuff available. Other than Phandelver, I have only used 3rd party (including PF) or earlier edition materials converted for my 5E sessions.

So yeah, thanks OGL, and Ryan Dancey and all those involved making it happen way back when.
 

Ryan Dancey was a visionary. I will always consider him one of the most influential people in RPGs ever.

I don't even think that's an exaggeration.

He made a world where Mearls and Crawford could work on stuff for D&D before they made 5e.

I hope that WotC continues this legacy, if only for its own sake. :)
 

Without it, I don't think EN World would still be around. There were many years of the site being effectively subsidized by D&D 3.5 book sales.
