I need a generic fighter - can you help?

I'm doing a little research on how the fighter class has changed from edition to edition and I need some help with 4e as I don't have the books. I need a 4e human fighter character armed with a long sword and shield. He should also have the best armor that he could afford given average starting money. His stats should be:

Str 16
Dex 14
Con 13
Int 12
Wis 11
Cha 10

I know this isn't optimum, that's ok. So, any takers? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Plate Mail, Large Shield, and Longsword plus standard adv. pack should leave you with some coin left over.

At Wills:
Tide of Iron
Cleave
(H)Sure Strike

Encounters:
1st Covering Attack if your party "lines" up often otherwise Steel Serpent Strike
3rd Dance of Steel

Dailies:
1st Villian's Menace
5th Crack the Shell

Utility:
2nd Boundless Endurance

Feats:
(H) Weapon Focus
1st Plate Prof.
2nd Shield Push
4th Powerful Charge

+1 To STR and DEX at 4th

Skills: Pick 3 you like from Fighter's list...

Or you can follow the "Guardian Fighter" build in the PHB

Human fighter

I've been playing with different builds, and here is one I have for a human fighter. Mine had different stats, so you may have to adjust on that.

Human atttibute bonus to Str
Powers
At-will: Cleave, Sure Strike, Tide of Iron
Encounter: Passing Attack (or whichever is most effective for your group)
Daily: Brute Strike (as encounter)
Feats: Blade Opportunist, Quick Draw (added bonus to opportunity attacks, initiative bonus, no minor to switch weapons)
Equipment: Longsword, 4 javelins, scale armor, light shield, adventuring pack (0 gp left)
Trained Skills: Athletics, Endurance, Intimidate, Streetwise

As a human, I would go with the ability scores:
Str 18
Con 12
Dex 14
Int 11
Wis 14
Cha 8

Mostly just because Wisdom is great this time around.
Toughness is a good choice for a feat at first level as is improved initiative

I'll assume the human bonus stat will go into strength. Also assuming feats Quickdraw, Weapon Focus, (using Andur's suggestion):

Human Fighter 1
Initiative +4
HP: 28; Bloodied 14; healing surge 7, surges per day: 10
AC: 19; Fort 17, Refl 15, Will 11
Speed 5
:bmelee: Longsword (standard; at-will): +8 vs AC; 1d8+5 damage.
:ranged: Handaxe (standard; at-will): +7 vs AC; 1d6+4 damage, range (5/10).
:melee: Tide of Iron (standard; at-will): +8 vs AC; 1d8+5 damage, push target 1 square, you can shift into that square.
:melee: Cleave (standard; at-will): +8 vs AC; 1d8+5 damage, 4 damage to adj enemy other than target.
:melee: Sure Strike (standard; at-will): +10 vs AC; 1d8+1 damage.
:melee: Covering Attack (standard; encounter): +8 vs AC; 2d8+5 damage, an ally adjacent to target may shift 2 squares.
:melee: Villain's Menace (standard; daily): +8 vs AC; 2d8+5 damage, you gain +2 attack, +4 damage bonus against target till end of encounter. Miss: bonuses are +1 attack, +2 damage.
Skills: Athletics +7, Endurance +4, Intimidate +5, Streetwise +5
Str 18 (+4), Con 13 (+1), Dex 14 (+2), Int 12 (+1), Wis 11 (+0), Cha 10 (+0)
Equipment: Scale mail, Heavy Shield, Longsword, Handaxe (2), Adventurer's Kit, 5 gp.

If I made any mistakes or missed anything, I'm sure someone will point it out.

*Edit: Dropped armor down to scale (it was an easier edit than changing stats). Fixed Refl to add shield bonus. Added initiative bonus from Quickdraw, bought another handaxe.

You would need to use the human +2 stat bonus on your Con, else you won't be able to take plate prof.

Hey, quote Mengu, not me, I just left off where to put the 2 points from humans. ;)

Personally I don't think the trade of a feat to get Plate is worth it over Scale, but he said best armour possible.

Going to Scale, then I'd either grab Blade Opp, Improve Init, or Quickdraw, can also pick up a ranged weapon then too.

This looks perfect. Thank you very much! I might even play this guy at my next game. :)
