well we all found out at the same time that this demon had her soul and we couldnt come up with a plan in front of him so i made a decision because there was only four options here, give the demon one of our souls, agree to the demons demands of summoning him in the material plane, all get killed right there by trying to take it forcefully, or decide not to save this girl and just leave, and that last one wasnt an option, i was the only one who came up with a plan and had to wait to fill them in when we were away from this demon.

Why did you think that you had to work on the demon's terms? Sure, it's powerful enough to kill you right now. Though if you decided not to save the girl right then and could leave, you could leave and come up with your own plan. You know the girl's soul is out there. You know the demon that has her. So why not track the demon down on your terms? Find other ways to mess with the demon's powers. You can build up your own power as well. Just because the villain tells you something, it doesn't mean it's true. Currently, that demon is trapped somewhere it doesn't want to be. It's trying to leverage a girl's soul to get what it wants. Though you guys are the only one who can give the demon what it wants (otherwise it would just kill you and be done with it). So technically, you have the power in this scenario. You hold the stronger bargaining chips.

Wait...."DM specified that there will be no PvP, but basically his Character is a Paladin"

That's the first red flag to me, the DM is playing a character....ugh. These are the sort of things that go wrong when the DM plays a character in his own game. At this point what's done is done, I would stop the bleeding. I would decline anything that would lead to more PVP and try to get the whole mess behind you. Sounds like the DM may not let that be an option though, so I fear for the future of your gaming group.

So the paladin is the DM's character? If that's right, gotta admit I missed that on first read. If so, is the DM just letting you do that to get rid of his DMPC at this point? In which case, just work out the narrative with him and move on with the story when play resumes next session.

well i couldnt very well tell him my plan in front of the demon because the demon would have killed all of us, there was no way of beating the demon at our current health or level.

Is your assassin character making these posts, or are you?

There's a difference between you, across the table, telling the other players your plan (which the DM can hear but the demon can't), and your PC in-character telling the paladin the plan (which the demon would overhear).

The DM gave my new character a mission, i was hired by an in keeper to assassinate him, but i was also hired to lead them to the body of the girl, but we have a way to get my old character's soul back but it would take to much time so i just re rolled characters.

And you have accepted a personal quest that involves PvP in a game where it is not allowed? Why? Why haven't you ganged up with the paladin to interrogate the innkeeper and find out why he wants the paladin assassinated?

Have you been playing too many computer games?

You are not in competition with the other players.

I think it's three different people, the OP, the DM and the paladin. In the original post, it's stated that he doesn't want the paladin player to hold a grudge. If it was the DM's character that was going to die, no need to work in secret to avoid a grudge. The DM wouldn't have a grudge and be ok with the OP just killing him. Plus no need to hide it from the party really, as it would be part of the plot worked out by the DM.

First, The paladin is a different player not the DM. second, the way the paladins character is we were not leaving without that girls soul because how long it took to get there and how much effort we put into getting it back. third, the in keeper is a god and cant be killed, he runs an inn that connects to multiple different dimensions. lastly, if we are sharing plans it is only in game we dont do it out of game because if another player took what i told him out of game and incorporated into his character who had no idea what i told him, that would be meta-gaming, because at the end of the day the Paladin guy had no idea what my sorcerer was planning. also, yeah i appreciate all the advice, but i asked for ideas on how to accomplish this, not for morals, not for your opinion on how it should have happened, not for what you think of my DM..... but for ideas on how i can kill him. i appreciate everyone's advice, but unless you have ideas on this, i really dont want to read what you have to say.

Well, if you only want advise based on what you wrote:

So one of the other players offed my previous character for reasons. my new character is an assassin and the DM is allowing me to extract my revenge. The DM has charged me with the task off murdering his player....
I think killing a fellow player, over something their character did in a game, is first degree murder. And I hope you go to jail for life should you go through with it. And your DM as well for conspiracy to commit.
