I Need My Short Story Critiqued

Any novelists or short story writers here on EnWorld? What am I saying? Of course there are. I'm looking for a few good souls (whether you are novelists or short-story writers or not) to read a short story I wrote before I submit it to various contests toward the end of this month.

It's not a fantasy story, but it is "speculative fiction", and has fantastical (<--what a word!) elements in it.

If anyone is willing, please send me an e-mail via this site (and post in this thread so I know to check my EnWorld e-mail address).

It's about 8K word.

P.S. As hinted above, I need it in the next few weeks so changes can be made before upcoming submission deadlines.

Fire away. I write (but haven't sold) novels and have sold some short stories. I'd be happy to take a look.

When you send it, could you let me know what state it's in, and where you're planning to send it? I'll crit a story differently for a potential submission to Realms of Fantasy than I would for, say, Black Gate -- the two mags take different stuff, and that might help me know what you're going for.

Wow. I was just looking at the website today and noting that I should really update it.

Not that I've sold anything, but I've done some interviews and moved on in my writing and such. And, well, I should be yammering about Mass Effect.
