If you're looking for a a space flight sim for a console PS2 has a Battlestar galactica game out now(based of off the original show, not the new one). Not the best in terms of review (some minor annoyances with the auto targeting feature mostly) but graphics and physics wise it seems pretty good.

Wing Commander: Prophecy still runs and is pretty nice. There are mods that use the WC engine to recreate older time periods, as well.

Alas, tho, the glory days of the space fighter sim seem to be pretty much gone.

No one's mentioned X-Wing Alliance, which I thought was the best of the Star Wars space sims. It's a lot of fun.

On that subject, there were some missions released online, and were eventually part of the Gold release of the game.

I haven't actually played this one, but it looks pretty good. It's based on Babylon 5.
