I want an invading army from beyond this dimension. Tell me about it.

Nazis. Nazis make gaming fun. Hitler's fascination with the occult leads the Third Reich to technology that breaches the barrier between worlds and he seeks all the magic items he can lay hands on.
Ack. Introduing 1940's Earth era weapons and tech? Yuck.

If I'm not mistaken, Dungeon/Dragon ran a Githyanki Invasion series a while ago.
I don't remember the issues (darn I hope Paizo gets their database of issues up soon) but it was kind of nifty if I remember correctly.

Not so fast- imagine: "Bavarian Stormtroopers in King Arthur's Court!"

A small force of Nazis seeking the Spear of Destiny accidentally rip a hole in time & space, winding up in a fantasy world.

Initially, their superior firepower gives them a huge advantage, but since they have no supply lines nor any engineers/inventors, they can't replenish their ammo and fuel. One of the smarter commanders, the dour Oberst Sigfried "Sauer" Ramm of the "Brennendes Augen" Armor Division, decides to consolidate his gains with his remaining power, taking over a mid-sized city-state before they completely run out of supplies.

Once the takeover is complete, the remaining firepower is on display as a potential threat- kept up as best they can, but rarely used.

In the meantime, they use their newfound authority to muster world-specific military forces in order to bring the 3.5 Reich to this new world...

(Note to self: cross-post this in the "Campaign Ideas" thread!)

I used humans - the Mabden, from Moorcock's Corum series. Humans are scary.

Edit: I've also used dimension hopping Nazis with 1970s technology from a Harry Harrison short story.

I read this in the other thread. I stand corrected sir.
I just had these images in my head of a couple tanks, automatic weapons, and my kneee jerk reaction was "AEEEIII!"
But I can see them running out of ammo and forced to adopt D&D weapons very quickly to minimize the impact of firearms.
I could even see the Nazis trying to regain their firearms toehold and make basic black powder weapons (if they exist or the basic components do).

I had this thought of a PC's languages: Common, Elven, Orc, Undercommon, German.
Hehhe

Spoiler; that was the plot of Phantasy Star 2 and FF9. Damn effective, too.

Why aren't they looking for the Holy Grail?

This thread wins!

And for my thought: how about have an ancient civilization rise from the past--in a kind of reverse order? One day, someone discovers a ruin that wasn't there yesterday--by the time a serious investigation is mounted, it's no longer a ruin, just abandoned! What will happen when the long-lost residents return?

For added effect, the various ruins could waver, appearing and disappearing repeatedly before finally becoming completed in this time.

Bonus: historical records hold fewer and fewer clues as to who this ancient race was--because as the cities move forward their history comes with them.
