IA: A Teacher for Laynie

"Well, I haven't really heard about that kind of thing before, but you never know. If you're going to be all into magic items, though, Omega is the place to be...Speaking of which, the labs are just ahead. Anything particular related to magical artifacts that you'd like to see, or shall we just kind of do a general walk-through?"

(OOC: Well, we've now officially passed the normal IA's part 2 thread in length. The unusual thing is that we have almost as many views. Honestly, I would expect something closer to one view per post, so I guess somebody must be reading along with us :D)

"Well, if I can meet those in charge, that might be nice. Never hurts to get a personal reference you know?"

"The dean and our most famous item crafters are most likely too busy, but we might see someone you could talk to--let's check it out."

*Elektra takes the trio into a laboratory area, with many connected rooms filled with impressive-looking magical equipment, alchemist's labs, mystical forges, and unusual magical devices of all sorts.*

*As Elektra walks them through the various areas, she spots someone across the way.*

"Kelin, are there any profs about?"

*A young fellow looks up as she calls out and scratches at the bit of stubble on his chin.*

"Grywald was just in the lab helping some of his research assistants on a project. You can probably catch him if you hurry--out that way," he points demonstratively.

"Professor Grywald is really into crafting wondrous magical items of various sorts. Let me know if you'd like to talk to him and we'll try to catch him."

"Alright then--thanks Kelin!" she calls back as she leads them out into the hallway near to the lab at a hustle, her gaze eventually fixating on a twenty-something blond-haired man wearing an ornate gilded version of the House's robes with a bright red cloak and an emerald circlet.

"Professor Grywald? If you have a minute, we have some prospective students on a tour who especially wanted to see our most accomplished magical item researcher."

*The professor turns back towards Elektra and unleashes a perfect smile of shiny white teeth.*

"But of course, my dear. You're...hmm...Planter if I remember correctly? Ah yes, you had the highest marks in Nexuses and Foci three years ago. And a first-year student too!"

"Now who have we here? I don't know the katara or the other man, but you look kind of familiar little lady. Did I teach your older sister maybe?"

"I think she's an only child, Professor Grywald."

"Ah, while you're not my student, you can just call me Dorian."

"It wouldn't feel right, though Professor."

"What, am I so old now that I can't go by my first name?" Professor Grywald asks in a jesting tone that suggests mock affront, "Surely you talk to your teachers who are graduate students on a first-name basis, yes?"

"Anyway, how can I help you, Mister...?""

"You may have taught her mother, do you think you could place the name? Her name is Laynie, and I'm Vanitri. Tis a pleasure to meet you Professor Dorian."

"Oh come now, Vanitri--I'm not that old, am I?"

"Laynie, eh? Can't say I can peg it for certain. I think Kryla Phorcyn said she was going to name her daughter after her mother, Elayna Phorcyn. And Kryla had long beautiful blonde hair like the lass."

"Ah, but you didn't come to talk to me about that. What would like to know about my research?"

OOC: Does Laynie react to that name at all?

"Well, I'm hoping to get some scholarships and attend the accademy, and in particular, I'd find that my skills are probably currently more suited to assisting in artifact recovery more than anything, and thought I might be able to offer my services."

*Laynie doesn't react to the name all too much. She hasn't really reacted to any of the names. She's just reading her book now on the floating disk.*

"Artifact recovery? Elektra, my dear, I'd have expected an A+ student like you to have paid more attention to detail. Didn't you explain to Vanitri here that my research lies in item creation, not recovery?"

"I did, sir. I apologise."

"I suppose the Mordrues might have interest in recovered artifacts if they have historical or archaeological significance, and we at Omega do have a huge treasury of ancient objects, but I can't think of anyone on the staff who's specific purpose is bringing in more of them. In general, it is more cost effective to make new and exciting objects of power than it is to try to unearth old ones, unless one finds the old objects by chance without trying, or perhaps if it was a very specific and powerful item."
