IA: A Teacher for Laynie

"No, but she mentioned them in passing. Perhaps I'll find her again and ask."

"And of course it belonged to her, I'm just wearing it for good luck."

"I can do that, thanks for the tip."

*After a long night of studying, Vanitri appears at the prescribed time for the beginning of the examinations, bringing Laynie along too. A bespectacled man with frizzy white hair hands Vanitri a stack of papers.*

"Hello there, Mr. Duskrider. I'll be handling the first phase of your exam. See these papers? They are filled with questions, some specific and short, others detailed and long, about various aspects of magic. We don't expect our applicants to know about magic already, however, so the challenge is to find all the answers within 24 hours, but you have the full resources of the Academy and especially the library to aid in this endeavour. The only restriction is that you may not ask for help from any staff member or student to answer the questions. There is one exception: The librarians are instructed to give you a basic overview of the library but not answer any specifics. You can always ask the librarians for the overview if you need it. Do you understand the task ahead of you?"

"I have but one question. Where can I get something to eat, and is there a place I can sleep?"

With those questions answered, Vanitri will set out to the library with Laynie. "Ok Laynie, looks like we got a challenge here. Let's see what we can do ok?"

"That is two questions, but fear not. The road to enlightenment is paved by asking the right questions. It is good to remember, for we may choose to give incomplete information to see if you ask the right questions. You may eat in the main dining hall but not in the dining areas for the specific dormitories. The sheet at the very end entitles you to free meals. We do not provide a place to sleep. You should only sleep when you are finished if you hope to finish."

"Glad I got a good night's sleep then. I bring it to you when I'm done then professor?"

Once that question is answered, he sets off to get started.

"Bring it back to this room. I probably will not be here, depending on when you finish, but there will be a place for you to put it. I will be back in exactly 24 hours to pick it up if you've submitted it by then."
