IA: A Teacher for Laynie

*The Elayna Valsice Memorial Scholarship stands out because it apparently can pay upwards of the entire 2000 by itself but has never been successfully awarded yet, since she was fairly recent and the chooser is fairly selective. Many students apply for this just for fun to see if they win the jackpot.*

*There is also the Headmistress Elayna Daryne memorial scholarship, in memory of the greatest leader of the Academy since the founders themselves, and of course the memorial scholarships for the three founders. These are interesting because the choosers hadn't been invented yet when the scholarships were enstated, so there are other selection mechanisms in place, one of which requires the recipient to join the namesake house of the school's dormitories.*

*Aside from the "Big 4", there are other non-chooser scholarships based on great Medibarian magical figures. One that catches Vanitri's eye is the Elayna Lyrue memorial scholarship, in honour of Medibaria's great Mage Queen.*

*Another of the nonchoosers that might be good for Laynie, though not really Vanitri, is the Jaedyn Limanthra memorial scholarship for gifted youngsters, in memory of the perspicacious young lad who passed away before his time.*

*There do not seem to be scholarships for parents. There is a modest scholarship for orphans who who don't have a home, but Vanitri probably wouldn't technically qualify himself with his Freefolk family, and Laynie isn't the one applying--at least yet.*

Vanitri will apply to the Daryne, the Elayna Valsice, the Omega (hey, can't hurt), the Elayna Lyrue, and perhaps one more if he can find one that interests him (Likely some legendary explorer/traveling mage).

Has anyone ever gotten the Elayna Lyrue scholarship? What merits is it awarded on in theory? (He'll try anyway)

*Searching through the memorial scholarships, Vanitri finds Anoura Valanise, a famous graduate who adored traveling to distant lands and developed groundbreaking research into translocation magics. Anoura's scholarship does have a chooser.*

(OOC: The Elayna Lyrue memorial scholarship is granted based on arcane talent, strong leadership skills, and iron determination. It has been given out a decent number of times, though it isn't the easiest to get. Girls usually have the edge up over guys, but only in competitive years where there are two or more strong candidates for the scholarship.)

*Vanitri heads to the Hall of Choosers. He applies for the Omega and Daryne first. Each is administrated by the professor that is currently the Housemaster for those two dormitories.*

*First, Vanitri talks with Omega Housemaster Cedric Bronwen. He is a graying man who is certainly nice but seems a bit stuck on the fact that Vanitri has no previous research. Finishing up the conversation, Professor Bronwen nods to himself and tells Vanitri:*

"Unfortunately, since you do not have a past record of research or scholarship of note in the field of magical innovations or artisanship, I'm afraid I cannot offer you the Omega Memorial Scholarship. However, that does not mean that we would not love to have you with us in House Omega. Your interest in magical artifacts is genuine, and you would have a great time here, I think."

*Later, he meets with Rayne Liore, the Housemistress of Daryne. The first thing he notices is that Rayne, a half-elf, is the first non-human professor he has met so far. Although she seems far too young to be a professor, Vanitri knows that half-elves age differently than humans. Professor Liore and Vanitri hit it off swimmingly, and he spends much of the interview telling stories about his adventures. In the end, she smiles as she tells him:*

"Vanitri, it is clear that you have displayed great dedication, energy, and commitment, not only in your adventures but in taking care of this sweet little girl and going out of your way to find her a home. These are all qualities that were looked upon with admiration by our house's namesake, Headmistress Daryne. Furthermore, some of us among the faculty have been passing around a little paper from your first examination. Your fanciful but still reasonable response to one of the unanswerable questions shows great imagination and vision, and these are the qualities Elayna Daryne cherished most of all, in all her students as well as in herself."

"It is my honour to award you the Elayna Daryne Memorial Scholarship, if you choose to come live with us in House Daryne. It will pay for a quarter of the total tuition, 500 gold. I hope you accept our offer, but even if you don't, you should come visit me sometime and we can talk some more. Here, let me write you some directions."

*She takes a piece of paper and quickly jots down some directions, handing it to Vanitri.*

(OOC: Next coming soon)

1st Interview:
"Thank you for the offer good sir. I'm sure that wherever I end up, I'll likely spend much time working with the students in Omega."

2nd Interview:
"Well, it is indeed my honor to accept, and I'm looking forward to talking with you sometime. I think Laynie would love to meet you as well. I look forward to making myself a home in Daryne for the next several years."

Vanitri lets the ink dry before he puts it away, "I look forward to the visit."

*Next up is the Elayna Lyrue Memorial Scholarship. Though there is no chooser, the staff have enlisted the aid of an ancient entity that knows more about Elayna Lyrue than any living mortal, a being of such great stature that the scholarship is decided almost entirely based on her personal whims. And that being is--the Mage Queen's pet kitty Mystara. Apparently, when her feline companion became ill, the Mage Queen created a new mechanical body for her, and it has survived to this day. Recently reactivated in the past century, she is smarter than most cats and able to speak Common, but the Mordrue scholars are upset that she has forgotten or never cared about most things they considered important, though she remembers well the taste of mice back when she was a flesh-and-blood cat.*

*Mystara decides that she likes Vanitri, curling up in his lap to get some rest, an interesting habit considering that she doesn't quite need it. She says he reminds her of something she can't quite remember. The scholarship committee agrees to award Vanitri 250 gold for the lesser scholarship of this type.*

(OOC: Choosers next)

*Laynie waves goodbye to the cat as she and Vanitri head to the actual Choosers. The Choosers prove to be small magical items that are to be held by the candidate. They interface with the candidate's mind and then either reject the candidate or speak a scholarship amount, possibly with commentary attached.*

*The Anoura Valanise Chooser is a magical map that seems to be blank but draws beautiful pictures of different vistas, some visited by Vanitri and others by Anoura herself, as it interfaces with Vanitri. Laynie seems to enjoy the pictures as they appear. It later produces a map that details Vanitri's entire chain of peregrinations across the lands. The Chooser seems impressed with Vanitri's travels and spirit of wanderlust compared to many applicants, and so he is offered a 250 gold scholarship which will increase to 500 if he chooses Anoura Valanise's house, Omega.*

*Elayna Valsice's Chooser is an emerald sceptre. It glows brightly, a warm green, before excitedly announcing that it will offer Vanitri 1500 gold in scholarship--if he chooses to live in Elayna's house, Sice, that is. Otherwise, the amount is reduced to 500.*

Vanitri looks for any other choosers that might be of use, particularly ones in Daryne. He'll also try the orphan one.
