IA: A Teacher for Laynie

*Vanitri tries a few other Choosers, but none of them awards him a scholarship, though a few from Daryne deliberate for a while before they have to finally decline. The people at the scholarship for homeless orphans tell him that by joining the Freefolk, he technically was not considered adopted by the letter of the law and could thus apply, though they mention that they have limited funds and ask him to be sure before he does so, as giving the money to Vanitri could mean not having any for an orphan who didn't have a home at all, even among the Freefolk.*

Count De Monay:
400 General Scholarship
500 if he goes into Daryne
250 from Elyane Lyrue
250 + 250 if in Omega from Anoura Valanise
500 + 1000 if in Sice from Elayna Valsice

So:
1900 if in Daryne
1650 if in Omega
2400 if in Sice

What happens if his scholarships exceed the attendance costs?

(OOC: The terms vary on the scholarships. The merit in particular will be depleted if he goes over, but all the others to which he applied will continue to award. This means if he goes to Sice and wins one more scholarship, he will be gaining money each year This is probably due to the incredibly large amount offered by the Elayna Valsice Memorial Scholarship. Having won a scholarship for a member of the house that nobody else has ever won ever, Vanitri might be able to be one of the first non-Highborne to pull off the Sice Scholarship too, if he tried for it, just based on the Housemaster's respect for their alumna)

"How much is the orphan scholarship? I would perhaps only be requiring 100 gold for it. I will continue to look however."

Vanitri will have a talk with the Sice advisor, simply to see how that works out.

OOC: He's leaning towards the Daryne, perhaps even if he has to do some scavenging work to pay. He'll likely sell the horse (perhaps to the school for scholarship money if he can), since he won't need it much, and can always use a school mount if they are available. Sice could be interesting...

"It is generally a variable amount, based on need. We don't want to have to turn away bright young orphans, so if an orphan has an insurmountable amount of tuition left to pay, we try to help with that if we can."

*Kharisa Valpyren, the Headmistress of House Sice, is beautiful and sophisticated, though not as effusively friendly as Rayne Liore. She is pleased to meet with Vanitri in her large elegantly furnished suite.*

"Greetings, Mister Duskrider. It is my pleasure to meet you. You know, I knew Elayna Valsice. She was a teaching assistant for a class I took back when I was a student here. She was probably the greatest magical genius of our time. I can't say I'm not surprised you were the first to win her scholarship, particularly since you are not a Highborne, and Highborne are usually better at magic, but I am also very impressed. We do have non-Highborne in our House as well, and all of them are special and unique, like you. You see, at Sice we strive to train those with the greatest potential to become great wizards and people of influence in the outside world, and not just to use what we have learned to continue reading other people's works in books like the Mordrues. As such, we like to help our students make connections with important people who would be interested in them, since often it is who you know, not what you know, that matters most. I heard that you all but signed the forms for Daryne already, but I urge you not to make a mistake you might regret down the line. And of course, I don't think anyone in our house would disagree that anyone who can impress the legendary Elayna Valsice deserves the full 500 gold scholarship from us as well."

"Well, thank you very much, and I will certaintly keep it in mind. I do have a lot to consider, and you make an attractive offer. It was a pleasure meeting you Mistress Valpyren, and I do hope I have that pleasure again, wherever I may end up."

Vanitri will take the opertunity he has to look over things and see if he could offer his merit scholarship to the orphanage fund if he ends up with more than he needs, as well as look for any other potentialy inviting offers for 100, including student work.

"Laynie, which dorm did you like? Daryne or Sice? How about the Headmistresses?"

"Most certainly. I am sure that even if for some reason you don't join choose the Sice network, I shall have cause to see you again, perhaps in one of my classes."

*Vanitri finds that the people in charge are indeed willing to offer the unallocated portions of the merit scholarship to the orphanage fund--they just don't want the merit scholarship to be actually paying the student to come to school (though the other scholarships don't seem to mind about that).*

*Apparently, student work is both possible and likely to be able to cover the rest, but he can't technically apply for that until after becoming a student by paying tuition. The people dealing with the finances assure him not to worry about a Catch-22. If he has the 100 now, he can pay it and be reimbursed. If not, he can easily take out a student loan that will be automatically repaid by his work.*

"Well, the Imaginarium was fun, but there's another one too. I think Sice had funner rooms. But Elektra and Layna and Rayne and the Daryne people are very nice. But Miss Valpyren said that the people in Sice are important. It's too hard to decide--can't you join both?"

"If it was me, though, I would probably choose Sice because they have the best Necromancy magic there. But Mister Vanitri, I think maybe you might like Illusion better."

"Ahh, but for the wisdom of a child," Vanitri says, rubbing Laynie's head and smiling. "I think the important people are the friends and family you can count on don't you? Let's go sign up for Daryne. I'm sure Elektra will be happy to see you again."

Vanitri will pay the remaining 100 gold as he accepts all the scholarships that are alloted to him going to Daryne.

OOC: It was tempting to make 500 gold a year to study, LOL. At least for him.

(OOC:  :p It was supposed to be tempting. That was the tone I was trying to carry in Kharisa Valpyren's words ;)

Sice would have been pretty funny though for Vanitri :))

"Sure. I'm happy I could help you figger it out!"

*Vanitri pays 100 gold and signs up for Daryne. The forms indicate that signing up for Daryne indicates an interest in energy, friendship, and imagination. Additionally, Daryne offers degree programs in Illusion, Evocation, and Universal magic, and he will be allowed to choose any of these with which to graduate, of course being allowed to take courses in any of the other areas as well if he wishes.*
