IA: A Teacher for Laynie

*After Vanitri finishes, he sees Laynie reading another book, not the one he gave her or the Codex Anathema.*

"You're slow," Laynie points out, "Want to talk about it? Okay, this one first! What would you do if you had to cast an evil spell to save people's lives. Would you cast the evil spell or let the people die?"

---------

"Well, I might have time, though I'll have to check my schedule. Maybe I can relax while studying--what do you think?"

"Well, you see, that's the problem with vague things like that. Who are the people, and how evil is the spell? If it's simply taboo, then of course. If it will bring back the reign of some evil lich king, then probably not. And who you're saving counts too, at least in my oppinion. What do you think? You see, that book is full of questions that don't always have a right answer, but you have to think about it."

-------

"I think I'll go with you when you check your schedule, so you don't have to go back to check it again," Vanitri says with a grin.

"Well, I'd guess they're just talking about an Evil spell, like Deathwatch or maybe an attacking spell that was evil, but not something that did something weird like bring a lich back. So would you cast an evil attack spell against an evil monster who was going to kill me? Or would you not cast it?"

----------

"Don't be silly--I'll be able to check it easily. Don't let me interrupt your research. I'll just check it and tell you next time we bump into each other."

"Probably, if it was the only way, but I'd make certain it was. What about you? If there was some beasie about to kill me would you cast something evil?"

OOC: Ugh, this is why I don't want to have kids :p

----------

"Nah, I need a break from my research anyway, and figured you could too."

"Yep, I'd definitely cast it. I think the people who would say not to cast it are stupid. Magic isn't evil unless you use it to do bad stuff--but it would be evil to not do my best to save you."

"How about this one? If there was a ritual that required you to kill one innocent child to save a kingdom, would you kill her? So would you kill me for a ritual to save lots of people?"

(OOC: Yup  That and they mess up your stuff ;))

---------

"Ah, okay. Well, I guess we can both check then. Based on the timing, though, you're about to meet my roommate. Anyway, shall we go?"

"I agree, I don't think there's a genuinely evil spell, only evil intentions or spells who's results would simply be evil."

"That's hard. I don't think I could realy sacrifice you, or any inocent child, for the good of a nation. But then, I guess it depends on if you were willing."

OOC: I'm willing to sum up the discussion in general. Vanitri mostly wanted to make sure she's generaly well grounded, and willing to consider others and the situation before doing something rash. What book is she reading anyway?"

----------

"Sure, meeting the roomate would be good too."

"So you would let everybody in the kingdom die to keep from killing me for the spell? What if it was all the Freefolk in your home caravan instead of just some kingdom. Would you kill me then for the spell?" Laynie leans back on her new book, whose title is written in letters Vanitri can't read.

(OOC: Laynie's trying to make sure Vanitri read the book too, plus she wants to know what he would do :D

Vanitri can't read the new book's title :p)

-----------

*Elektra nods.*

"Yeah, since you're pretty much already geased, it'll be okay"

*She heads back to her room, where she knocks and says "It's me" before opening the door and ducking in quickly with Vanitri. Her roommate had been studying an ancient tome on the bed. The roommate appears identical to Elektra in every way.*

"Oh dear, did you slip up? I swear, sometimes I'm not careful enough for my own good."

"No, not really. I just figured it wasn't worth the charade anyways. After all, you already geased him, right?"

"That's true. Well, Vanitri, now you know my secret."

"You're asking me to choose between loved ones, that that's hard. I'd certaintly have to think about it, but I'm realy not sure I could. It's easy to say I could, but killing someone you love is harder than you think, wouldn't you agree? I mean, would you sacrifice me to bring back one of your parents?"

OOC: He did, and I'm sure she's curious :p

--------

"Well, I'd guess something like this admittedly, so I'm not realy suprised. How'd you do it?"

"Yes...it would be hard. I'm glad you wouldn't kill me, though. I love you too, Vanitri," Laynie gives him a big hug.

(OOC: Laynie likes answers to questions instead of questions with no clear answer. She can come up with her own, usually, but she likes to hear what other people think, even if she doesn't agree ;))

----------

"Well, first, in an unrelated note, I managed to borrow a Ring of Sustenance. That helped at first, since now I only need to rest two hours a day, but it wasn't enough. Then, last year, when we captured the crazed renegade wizard hiding in the catacombs from the law who turned out to be Truman's uncle driven mad by an evil artifact, we found a magical item that performed a Fission effect, allowing me to split into two and reunite later, thus being in two places at once for the day, though I needed twice as much sleep because of it, and I had to split my spells between us."

Vanitri gives Laynie a hug back.

OOC: I notice she didn't answer my question, LOL. And yes, but that was part of the point, that not all questions have easy answers.

"So, where did you learn about Chronomancy?"

------------

"Well, then I know you need a break, and can certaintly afford to take one, though I'm willing to take both of you out if you'd like," Vanitri chuckles.
