IA: A Teacher for Laynie

*Vanitri finds a few more books on responsible magic use, and brings them back to Laynie, but she is still reading her other book.*

--------

*Chesa finds a history book and another book on conspiracy theories that she thinks might be helpful, though she isn't sure exactly for what he is looking.*

--------

"The other me? Why, I don't know what you're talking about, Vanitri," Elektra smiles sweetly and innocently, "What, do you think I'm using some kind of time machine to go back in time to the beginning of the day once it's over and then do twice as much?"

--------

*He signs, and they take the horse to the stables.*

Were they recomended by the librarian?

----------------

"Thank you Chesa, this should help." Van will do some research

----------------

"No, but that was an awfly specific denial. This have something to do with... well, your room situation?"

(OOC: They were recommended as being "less boring than the other one but still dull and pedantic in their assertions, as is typical of the genre")

------

*The first book mentions the same failed coup attempt. Apparently, a few of the noble houses sided with the Lord of Shadows, but they were pardoned after he was defeated. The uprising lasted for a mere six months, according to the book.*

*The conspiracy theory book makes more claims, but it isn't able to back these up with any evidence. It suggests that the Lord of Shadows was either (a) Elayna Lyrue II's half-dark elf son, (b) A posing wizard who specialised in shadow magic and deceived his followers as to his true identity, or (c) The Mage Queen herself, risen as an undead to reclaim her kingdom.*

-------

"Just kidding, Vanitri. I can guarantee it isn't that, since Chronomancy of that sort doesn't exist. That just sounded like something crazy you might see in a kid's book or something. So, did you find out anything interesting?"

"Anything that'd be good to read and still talks about magical ethics?"

----------------

'Half-Dark elf son? That seems... odd. Unless they did something to the poor woman before she was rescued.' Vanitri thinks to himself.

Vanitri will see if he can find any more conspiracy books.

-------------

"Oh, you should read the unanserable question I answered then. Anyway, there is some talk of a Lord of Shadows, and a few odd accusations that have just enough truth in them that they worry me, but no proof."

"There's an advanced text on magical ethics that I hear is a good read, but it doesn't cover responsible magic use or discipline in study so much as difficult ethical debates such as privacy vs use of divinations to prevent crimes, whether evil magic used to saved lives is still evil, and others. Most of them have no answers given in the book, though."

------------

*He spots a few other conspiracy theory books, though none of them seems to mention the Lord of Shadows. They cover theories ranging from "Elayna Lyrue was a dragon" to "Sice was actually a cross-dressing disguised elf girl" to "There is a secret magic that can only be learned by standing around and letting monsters zap you with their attacks until you either die or learn it" to "Bananas are actually sentient beings closely related to the aboleth".*

-----------

"Well, at least it sounds like you're getting somewhere, then. That's good. Keep up the good work!"

"That sounds good, where's that?"

---------------

Oh well, that looks like enough for now.

OOC: The Bananas theory sounds promising :p And nice dig on the learner ;)

-----------------

"Thanks, you too. Say, you ever going to have some free time? Maybe I can find someone to watch Laynie and take you out to dinner or something."

"It's Ethics in the Practise of Magic" by Hale Absalom. You can't miss it"

-----------

(OOC: That could be the grounding for a cool new adventure--defeat the bananas and their aboleth masters! Yeah, thought the Learner belonged in a book like that ;))

-----------

"Well, I need to check my schedule to see if there's anything in the next few days, but in a week and a half after finals, I'll definitely have evenings open."

Vanitri pulls two copies if he can, hands one to Laynie and sits down with the other one. "Perhaps we can discuss this when we're both done with it. That sound good Laynie?"

----------

Vanitri laughs "If you don't kill yourself before then."

"Is this another boring book or a good one this time?" Laynie looks equal parts excited and suspicious of the book's quality.

-----------

"Don't worry, I'm only taking 12 classes. I heard Elayne Valsice took 10 once. That's around the same amount, right?"

"Well, I hear it's good, but either way, it's important. You need to learn about ethics little lady. As much as it's easy to do whatever you want, sometimes ya gotta think about others or your own safety, you know?"

----------------

Vanitri chuckles, "Yeah, it's kinda close. You sure you can't spare a few hours some night? You don't look busy now."
