IA: A Teacher for Laynie

*Vanitri reads through some history books. Elayna Lyrue the Second is barely mentioned, and only as Elektra had mentioned. Her mother has a lot more information, including her rise and fall and stories of her reign some of which are deemed possibly legendary or apocryphal. Of note, after hours of checking, he eventually finds a footnote indicating that a 'Lord of Shadows' claiming to be a descendant of the Mage Queen attempted to organise a coup to take over control of the Empire, but it was eventually defeated by the imperial forces.*

Vanitri will look for more references on the Lord of Shadows, including asking the Librarian.

OOC: I assume this may take a few days, so I don't mind if you just assume a little bit.

OT: Finding some treasure would help as well. Other than XP, this adventure has cost more than it's been worth at the moment.

*Vanitri is not able to get a meeting with Housemistress Valpyren in the intervening time, but he does get a hold of Rayne Liore much more easily. He and the half-elf housemistress share tea and talk about their lives before the Academy.*

*Apparently she lived in Orussus, where she managed to get a job as a clerk at the library before reading about the Academy and deciding that she must find it one day and join. They almost turned her away, but she was able to impress a few important people with her previous studies, including the old Housemistress, Adriona Mineria, who sponsored her as a graduate student and selected her as her successor when Rayne became a professor.*

*Meanwhile, his research reveals little about the Lord of Shadows, at least initially. He tries asking the first librarian he meets, a surly old woman who dismisses him after saying she's never heard of it. He tries again later, when this time the librarian's desk is staffed by a chipper young bespectacled girl named Chesa who offers to check around for him among the reserve books. There are still more regular history books to check too, so he can continue with that over the next few days.*

*Elektra seems to pop up everywhere, leaving classrooms, entering classrooms, studying in the library, studying in her room. With twelve classes, she must be hustling about very quickly at this time of year.*

*Laynie abandoned Vanitri's book as boring and is now reading the Codex Anathema, which she managed to find somewhere, as well as the spellbook.*

Vanitri chuckles at Laynie, "Dear, you realy should finish that other book first. Sometimes you need to do the boring stuff before you get to the fun stuff. Besides, I don't want you blowing yourself up or anything."

With Chesa's help, Vanitri will look through some of the books she pulls.

"Elektra, how do you manage this? You're everywhere. Surely you'll burn yourself out before you finish if you're not careful."

OOC: Congrats on 20,000 again.

"Awww! But that one's boring and stupid too! It even says that in the spellbook."

*Laynie pulls out the spellbook and puts it underneath Vanitri's chosen text The Dangers of Undisciplined Magical Research, then reads one of the runes on the inner cover. The blank pages in the spellbook fill with runic symbols, and it eventually manifests in a copy of the other book--but it has handwritten notes written in the margins and marking the text. Most of the notes are dismissive of the work and the author's merit as a Wizard and intellectual curiosity in general.*

*Chesa is still looking for books at the moment--we'll get to that later.*

-----

"I know, but all these classes are so awesome! Sometimes I wish I could be in two places at once though."

(OOC: Yay!)

"Well, let's see if we can't find you a better book then Laynie," Vanitri says with a chuckle. He'll ask a Librarian for help.

No problem

-------------

"Of course they are, but there's more to life than just magic and research you know. Slow down and live life a bit. Or you just hiding from what happened to you when you did that with Alden?"

-------------

Did Vanitri's research into what to do with the horse lead to anything?

(OOC: What is he looking for this time around? Still books about the dangers of undisciplined research?)

-----

(OOC: Still on hold for now)

-----

*Elektra sniffs.*

"Alden? Ha! Who cares about him? Oh, don't worry about me, Vanitri. After all, I even had time to take you on the tour, right? I have lots of free time...well sometimes...anyways, see you, off to class!" she speeds off and Vanitri turns back to his books. A short while later, she comes back and asks, "Hey, what's up Vanitri? Find out anything interesting a bout our mystery?"

-----

*There is a stable here where he will be well taken-care-of. In exchange for letting the Academy use him when Vanitri is not using him, this service is provided free of charge.*

OOC: Just things on responsable magic use. He doesn't want her to get too far into maigc thinking it's easy and all fun and games.

Holding

-----------

"Um, didn't you just take off for class? Or was that the other you?" Vanitri asks, begining to get the idea of the other roommate.

-----------
