Captain Harris draws on his cigarette, the picture of nonchalance, as he glances around the village. But the way he fiddles with the catch on his holster suggests that all is not as it seems.

"Quiet isn't it. The buggers are probably off doing some sort of Morrus dancing harvest festival in the woods. Have you had a look around the rest of the village yet?"

Bravo continues its search of the house. In the study in a locked draw they find a small bottle of a clear fluid.

Lt. Martin shoulders his carbine and examines the bottle. He opens it and sniffs.

Please, God, let it be gin, he idly muses. I could certainly use some about now.

"Marine," says Cpt. Harris. "I can't stand around all day. Find the Lt."

Sgt Gross nods, giving Arther the go ahead.

Arthur nods and shoulders his rifle as he enters the church.

"Lt. Martin! Cpt. Harris has returned with the lifter and wants to know how you plan to proceed."

He looks around the church waiting for a response from the Lt.. If he doesn't get one he will move ahead further into the church.

[sblock=OOC]Doghead, I didn't read the description of the church's interior in the last thread so you might have to post it again if it's important.[/sblock]

--- INSIDE THE CHURCH ---

The inside of the church is a little gloomy. Nothing obvious appears wrong, until Authur's gaze reaches the alter. The statue of the Saviour has been wrenched from the wall and lie broken on the floor. As Arthur's eyes adjust to the gloom he notices other little signs of some sort of disruption; a rack of candles lies on its side, several of the statues of the saints have been damaged, the pews are all disordered.

There is a door in the left wall, connecting the church to the priest's residence. It is open. There is no sign of Bravo in the church.

Arthur takes his rifle into his hands and slowly moves towards the open door trying to keep quiet. If the small chamber is empty he will move on into the house.

After reaching the door to the house he will again call out: "Lt. Martin? Sgt. Strathmore?"

--- THE PRIEST'S RESIDENCE ---

- Bravo -

The liquid is clear, and doesn't have any noticable oder. If it is gin, it is the smallest gin bottle the Lt has ever seen; it contains barely a shot worth of fluid.

From elsewhere in the house the Lt. hears his name being called. A moment later, Cpl Strathmore leads Marine Rutherford of Alpha through to the study.

"Say's the Captain is looking for you Lieutenant."

From outside the Marines of Bravo team hear a muted bang - a shot, muffled by distance or walls. Followed by two more in quick succession. Then one more. Then silence. Then something not quite human. Screaming.

"Lieutenant! Something's going on out here!" The voice is unmistakably Sgt Goss's.

Arthur's eyes go wide at the the sound of the shot as he looks at the Lt.
He grabs his rifle and runs out of the church immediately kneeling beside the Sgt. his rifle at the ready.

"What's going on? Where did those shots come from? What was that horrible scream?"

--- THE VILLAGE SQUARE ---

Outside the church, Rutherford spots the rest of Alpha crossing the square, heads down, weapons up. The pull up on either side of the door of a two story house, one of the few in the village.

The lifter remains grounded, its engine ticking over. The navigator stands beside his machine. In one hand he holds a pistol, nervously. In the other, a cigarette, forgotten. His attention is fixed on the building opposite, and he doesn't notice Arthur until he calls out.

There is no sign of the pilot.

Stg Goss signals for Arthur to fall into place beside him.

Lt. Martin reacts to the shot without thinking, ducking back out of the building with his carbine at the ready, assuming that the rest of Bravo will follow.
