--- THE BIG HOUSE ---

-- Round 2 --

- Alpha -

Arthur switches his target to the two zombies beyond Sgt Goss, who is yelling at the two figures in front of him to get down on the ground. They ignore the shouted orders. The house is filled with light and noise as the two rifles roar almost simultaneously. One of the things jerks slightly, but continues its shambling advance on the Sgt.

Out of the corner of his eye Arthur watches as Lovel collapses to the floor under the loving attention of his attacker.

- Bravo -

Bravo follows Martin across the village square and into the big house on the opposite side. Strathmore, West and Robson crowd in behind the Lt. inside. They find themselves in an open foyer area, the smell of cordite hangs heavy on the air. The furnishings and carpets suggest some wealth, but it is gloomy inside. Drapes have been pulled on a number of the windows. The main source of light is though the open door. Pvt. Rutherford is there. Carbine at his shoulder, he is busy working the bolt action of his rifle. His attention is focused on a wooden panel door to the right of the entrance. The room is in darkness, heavy drapes pullled across all of the windows. Through the door, beyond Pvt. Rutherford, Lt. Martin sees Lovel on the ground. An young well dressed gentleman is crouched over the Marine, head down as if whispering something, or checking for life. Further in the room the Lt. spots the dark but unmistakable outline of Sgt. Goss. Two shambling figures, a woman and another man perhaps (its hard to see in the darkness) close on the Sgt. as Martin watches. They close on the Sgt, hacking and slashing at him with open hands.

Frantically Arthur again slams back the bolt on the rifle. "Sgt. Goss! What the hell are these things?!" He screams starting to seriously lose his cool at sight of all this carnage.

He again takes aim at one the two figures shambling towards the Sgt before he notice Lovel lying on the floor his attacker hunched over him.

"NO! Get off of him!" He quickly swings his rifle around and aims at Lovel's attacker before squeezing off a shot.

- Round 3 -

- Alpha -

From the gloom of the dining room there is a roar and a thump as Goss lashes out at the figures around him with his rifle. Arthur's own rifle roars once more. The figure crouched over the body of Lovel is knocked sideways. It looks up at its attacker. Its face is covered with blood. Its eyes are empty. It lurches to its feet. Arthur notices that its fingernails are long wickedly curved, like claws. And they too are bloody.

- Bravo -

Lt. Martin freezes. Nothing in his training prepared him for this. His brain refuses to function. Bravo crowds around behind, weapons up, instinctively waiting for orders.

Across the foyer the door under the stairs open and several figures lurch out of the darkness beyond. A middle aged woman in grubby servants clothes and a boy, barely half way through his teens by the look of it. Their mouths hang open slackly. They break in to a shambling gait, heading drectly for the members of Bravo. The woman has a wicked looking carving knife in one hand. The boy a fire iron.

"Seargant! We have more visitors!" yells West, even though Strathmore is just beside her. "What do we do?"

The carbine can be used as a club without any penalties. Its designed for it. Arthur is about 10 feet from the body of Lovel. The foyer is about 30 feet long, putting bravo about 20 feet from the woman and the boy. Bravo is a few feet from Arthur. Goss is in the dining room, about 10 feet beyond the door.

Arthur was so focused on the carnage in front of him that he didn't realize the Lt. had entered the building. He is startled as the Lt. opens fire but then breathes a small sigh of relief.

As Lovel's attacker stands back up and heads towards Arthur, his eyes go wide and he lowers his carabine staring in disbelief.

"Good Lord. What is wrong with these people? I just shot him!" He looks at the attacker and then back to Goss and West.

He steps back fear written into his face. His grip loosens around his weapon as he simply stares at the horrific scene before him his mouth hanging open.

-- Round 4 --

- Alpha -

Robinson stares at the scene in front of him as the well dressed young man closes in. HIs mind refuses to fire. The young man reaches for the Marine, his fingers and face sticky with blood. At the last moment Rutherford snaps too and ducks under the attack.

- Bravo -

Lt Martin brings up his carbine and shoots. The shot catches the elderly woman in the chest. She twists around, arms flung out wide. But she gathers herself and launches herself upon the Lieutenant. Her attack catches the Lieutenant off balance and her knife makes a shrieking sound as it scrapes across his armour.

Pvt. West brings up her carbine and yells at the young man to stop and drop his weapon. He pays her no heed, instead slashing at her with the iron. West fends it off with her carbine. "You idiot! I have a gun!" she yells at the boy.

Robinson follows West's lead, edging around to the left to get clear from the others.

"Fight back you moron!" Strathmore growls to West. Putting deed to word, Cpl. Strathmore drops his rifle and draws his axe. He steps up to the young man and brings his axe crashing down on the young man. It buries itself up to the haft in the young man's shoulder. The young man glances over at it then at Cpl. Strathmore. The vacant grin hasn't left the boy's face. Strathmore jerks his weapon free with a grunt.

"That ain't natural."

His eyes wide, Lt. Martin drops back a step, nearly dropping his weapon in shock. Instinctively, he lashes out with the butt of his carbine.

OOC: 3d6+5 -> [5,4,1,5] = (15)

He swears volubly and comletely fails to answer Pt. Rutherford's question. Fact is, he has no idea what to do, but is very near to ordering a retreat.

-- Round 5 --

Arthur can't bring his weapon to bare in the melee, but he can still use it. He swings at the young man in front of him, connecting heavily to the side of the man's head. There is a sickening crunch as the bone of his skull is caved in. The young man barely seems to notice it. The rictus grin remains firmly in place. Arthur is stunned, and the young man takes advantage of it to try and bury his teeth in Arthur's neck. Arthur just manages to get his carbine between the two of them, and hold his attacker off.

In the next room Sgt Goss can still be heard roaring curses at his opponents.

- Bravo -

The Lieutenant is having the same problem. He can't get the carbine into play with the old woman in his face except as a club. He drives the butt of the weapon into the woman's face. Her nose crumples under the impact. She responds by slashing at the Lieutenant's face with her knife. The Lieutenant ducks under it.

Meanwhile Cpl. Strathmore hacks at the boy. Perhaps he doesn't really have his heart in it, because the swing is weak and the boy just manages to evade it. The boy in return is unable to get past Strathmore's defences.

Ariel steps back and tosses her carbine and draws her axe. "Enough of this she mutters."

A carbine booms close by. Chunks of wood fly from the back wall.
