Carradoc towards the ground, landing and dismounting in front of the courier, if he can. Holding on to the reins, he begins to approach.

Seeing that the courier is immobilized, Thaliss' attention focuses on the giant vulture coming their way. This could be the courier's escape plan, but it could also be a worthy defender. Better not take the risk he considers, as he sends two blasts of force towards the giant bird.

Thaliss blasts the creature in the fog landing one attack.

Tolan moves to watch the courier in case she gets free.

Maighan still has an action.

The winged beast that is approaching is no vulture, but rather a large blue eagle.

Maighan guides her mount to a landing near the courier and vaults off from its back to dismount. She draws her scimitar as she arrives at the paralyzed man and meets his eyes.

"When the spell wears off, we'll be having a discussion," she says. "I'd recommend not trying to fight, or flee. You won't get far. Cooperate, and you will not be in danger from us."

She glances at the oncoming bird and frowns a little but doesn't seem overly concerned just yet.

The blue eagle arrives, and is fast enough to claw at Maighan. The claw attack hits for 10 points of damage. Maighan does seem to make her concentration check.

Parties turn. The bird is 10 feet past Maighan and 10 feet above the ground, everyone is in relatively close proximity.

Carradoc turns, and makes an arcane sign, and casts a spell that he has recently learned. He had experimented with in in his studies when they first had found the scroll, but now was a chance to try it out in full. Would he be able to put it to good use?

A geyser erupts below the eagle, drenching its feathers. Carradoc sculpts a Wall of Water in its flight path, hoping to slow it and bring it to the ground.

OOC: Cast Wall of Water, on top of the Eagle. It becomes difficult terrain, which I take to require walking, and so will stop flight. It's a concentration spell, and I'll maintain concentration, trying to keep the wall on top of the beard, essentially, using the water to prevent its flight.

The bird seems to crash into the wall and then flop out soaking wet on the other side on the ground, exasperated and surprised.

I guess combat is over. The bird is in no condition to get flying again and isn't particularly mobile, and the courier is held. What now?

Maighan produces some rope and ties the courier's ankles around, grimacing at her error in ignoring the eagle. She'd have to get used to beasts being potential enemies when fighting this foe, it seemed.

"I suggest we get somewhere farther from the tower," she says, and starts searching the courier for the message he was carrying.

A concealed and sealed letter is found on the Courier's person. Breaking the was seal is necessary to read it.

My beloved queen,

Your beauty is an inspiration to us all. It seems that our altercation with the Black Earth cult may have been even more significant than I had anticipated. It seems that a group of adventurers has dealt a decisive blow against the monks of the monastery. If what they say is true, the Black Earth has been dramatically wounded. The Sacred Stone Monastery seems to have been destroyed.

Hopefully we learn a great deal from the noblewoman.

These adventurers have visited us, and they seem quite capable... perhaps too capable. Someone by the name of Thaliss of house Everastim seems to lead them. Mayhaps you know him? Perhaps he can be convinced to join us? He may require special convincing, as they seem to be a bit averse to our goals. They encountered those foul fowl that have objected to our offers.

I would love to direct their intentions in a way that works to our benefit. I have... attempted to inform them about the vile acts of the fire cultists. Hopefully they follow up on this lead and route those evildoers before they can gain more power and complete their ritual.
