Dent fished out a bit of his supply of more digestible food. He passed it, along with his waterskin, to Romon. "We'll sweep below, then return for you. Bolt the door behind us. I'll use the unit's knock to signal our return." Once the door closed, Dent turned to the group and spoke in a low voice. "Down below, yeah? But which way? Through the ogres, or by some other means?" As he spoke, he stepped away from the door toward the hall, signaling his intent to go square off against the ogres unless someone spoke up otherwise.

OOC: Unit's knock: two quick raps, a pause, one rap, a pause, two more staccato raps. Or something. Someone pass me my James Bond pen weapon, please. :p

Once the Knight Captain is locked in the alarmed room and Thaliss's spell is cast, he follows Dent towards the stairs heading down. "Ready. If we're going in guns blazing, it might be easiest to go through the hole in the big reception hall." He pauses. "The route you found for us, Lieutenant. I know a way down, and it's possible we could take a few of them at range first."

Dent grunted his assent to Carradoc's suggestion, and started heading for the hole in the big reception hall.

OOC: Looks like we're going down below via the open "chute" (where there used to be stairs) in the room where we fought Qarbo et al, Creamsteak. If I've got that wrong, someone correct me.

You reach the open chasm in the main hall. There are no stairs, as they were collapsed when that lever was pulled.

There is a certain silence in the air, and as the party shuffles into the room they can only hear their footsteps. There is a 20 foot drop into the caverns below.

Dent crouched down and looked at the build of the chasm walls. Then he leaned a bit further and peered all the way down, trying to spy the floor below to see whether anything lurked in wait.

OOC: Was the masonry smooth, or rough (like the pillars in this room)? Did the walls look easily scalable? Perception [roll0].

Once Dent gives the all-clear, Carradoc smirks. "I've never really done this before, everyone, but I think if we all jump at once, I can help us land safely. Just follow me, and be ready to attack anything you see on the way down."

He looks around to see if there are skeptical eyes. "One," he whispers. "Two..." and on three he runs and dives into the opening, hoping that others follow him.

"Like a leaf on the wind," he repeats as he falls.

OOC: Assuming Dent sees it as all-clear, or that there are no targets that can be sniped from up here, Carradoc casts Feather Fall as he leaps. (I guess everyone would be "readying an action" to jump when Carradoc does, if tighter coordination is needed. Or we can all hold hands.)

The floor of this large chamber consists of loose red earth. A column of natural stone stands near the middle of the room, and a row of sturdy iron bars with a sliding cage door (currently shut) walls off the western portion of the room. A door of iron plate stands in the western wall behind the iron bars, while a similar door exits to the east.

Listening carefully, you can hear something breathing in the darkness. The stone of the chamber below is rough.

Dent shot out a hand to try to stop Carradoc from leaping. He shifted backward, away from the lip of the chasm. Whispering to the others as softly as he possibly could, Dent breathed out, "Something alive down there, waiting. Heard its breath." Having put the others on guard, Dent adjusted his grip on his longsword and, shaking his head with uncertainty at the folly of wizards, leapt off the edge of the chasm into the void.
