Bellalalalinda says, "Why exactly are we doing this? That's a lot of money -- more'n a year's work for my ma n' pa, just for Whistler and me. Is this really an investment we need to make right now?"

The story of the Kobold is that he showed up at the fair with some kind of crossbow contraption and won the shooting contest by a mile. They suspect he must live somewhere in the hills, he originally came in from the Dessarin Hills just south of here. Beyond that, the thieves guild can tell you that they sent someone to parlay with him about possibly doing some craft work for them, but when they found his lair (which they can roughly point on a map) he didn't respond to inquiries and the traps there prevented them from safely navigating the tunnels.

Bellalalalinda thinks that's much more sensible. "Keeps my feet on the ground," she explains as Whistler picks her up and places her on his shoulders.

As the group ventures out into the hills where this kobold supposedly dwells you happen upon the "cavern", a single tripwire plainly visible in front of it.

The cavern walls are painted with blood in all directions. A mess of needles, bolts, rope, and chains are scattered around the place in a grim display. Hidden in the trees above are bodies now hanging from their necks or feet in various states of expression. Some smiling, some angry, some gripped by fear.

This place is a mess, and not as the thieve's guild of Yartar described.

Bellalalalinda looks at the tripwire and rolls her eyes. "Traps," she says, with a tone of disgust.

"This one will mean more, and the rest won't be so obvious, I expect."

She is not one for deception. She looks around -- perhaps there's a squirrel in a tree? Or some other woodland creature? As a gnome she speaks to small beasts. Perhaps one of them can give her insight into what awaits them.

OOC: to find out how many pass by/into the cave (one kobold, many different greatures, armed hobgoblin guards; etc.), and if perhaps they always take the same path? (assuming traps to come, etc.)

The animals seem to imply someone came in like a dancing Disney princess whirling and singing along with the forest animals as it murdered people and triggered but avoided traps. It went into the cave. Then it came out and left.
