Anson approaches the statue, light in hand. This Statue does not have a key in it. The door has no lever but it's been wedged open by a spike, similar to the other doors before it. He moves to the door to peek inside.

The floor of this rectangular chamber is breached directly in front of the door by a collapsed trap—a spiked pit fifteen feet across and nearly twenty-five feet side to side. Narrow ledges to both sides look as though they should allow passage around the pit. Near the center of the twenty-foot-high chamber, a brazier of balance stands unlit. A sealed sarcophagus is set off to the side.

On the far side of the room, an oversized stone door stands closed. In shadowed light, two figures are pacing before the door and its lever, including one carrying an enormous sword. Their hushed argument carries across the room,

The figure with the sword seems impatient as he grunts,

“You going to be there all day? Or should I smash it open now?”

A figure closer to the door snarls back,

“I need time! Sven was the one who knew how this worked, not me. There are heavy wards and strong magic keeping this door sealed.”

“So you try, then,” the warrior says to someone unseen.

“I told you, it’s a magic seal,” a third voice says. “Not my thing . . . Wait … what’s that? I see light.”

Suddenly, the third figure steps out from behind a pillar—an archer with bow drawn.

“We have company,” he calls to his companions.

What I was looking for was the use of stealth but it was never mentioned. But even with a sneak check, with the lights being shone through, it's pretty hard not to be noticed in the dark room as there are only a couple of torches.

You can circumnavigate the pit trap with a successful DC 10 dex check - assuming you aren't under pressure. It will be at disadvantage if you are in combat.

Benny telepathically asks Max for help and the diminutive sphynx obliges and incants.

Benny then moves forward, and says with his childish voice: “ Don’t shoot! We’re not here to hurt you, we just want to light the brazier!”.

OOC: Max casts guidance - persuasion
Benny persuasion check : 10 inspiration used, second roll: 13 ouch! Dice gods not on my side today

There was something about these fellows that put Stratus on edge. They seemed to have more in common with the dead tomb robber from upstairs than they did with any honest citizens or clerics of the citadel. He looked to Havok to see if the dwarf was thinking the same.

Persuasion not quite high enough. You will need to convince them.
Benny then moves forward, and says with his childish voice: “ Don’t shoot! We’re not here to hurt you, we just want to light the brazier!”.
The armoured man scoffs,

"What, are there crypt tours for children now? Man, Pelor priests, all haughty but money grubbers like everyone else."

The tiefling at the door interjects with suspicion in her voice,

"Why does this child need to light the brazier? I don't know of any Wee Jas rituals that require virgins."

The man with the bow stands next to the wall, bow still drawn and ready, saying nothing.

I've crowded people around the door so you can all see and participate in the discussion. You aren't officially in the next room. Moving in the next room requires a DC 10 dex check to avoid falling into the pit trap(moving at half speed).

Anyone with 16 or higher strength could probably clear it with a running jump.

Feel free to move yourselves somewhere different.

@Steve Gorak is Max out of sight? or in the doorway with Benny?

After everything they'd been through, the attitude of the (most likely) robbers, angered Stratus immensely. He shouted, "Many are dead this night! And yet, you take this as an opportunity to enrich yourselves!? Stand down, or die. We have far too important a task to waste time with you lot!"

OOC: I would like to attempt to leap across the pit. Don't know how @TaranTheWanderer you want to work it.

You can totally jump it but there are people blocking the door if you want your running jump. I figure there's two options:

1. Wait a turn and secretly communicate your intent to the group so they move out of your way or(no need to roll);

2. Make a DC 10 Dex(to slip by) or Strength(to shove people out of your way) to get through.

If you fail, I'll say you can't get through but they see your intent to charge. If you roll a 1, I"m going to say you accidently shove either Anson or Benny into the pit (they have to make a save to catch themselves)

How does that sound???

Feel free to interrupt the conversation at any time! Even as she's responding to your threat!

There's a look of both amusement and confusion on their faces.

The Tiefling responds,

"If people died because we triggered the wards down here, that's unfortunate. I suppose they should have disarmed them if they were inviting tourists."

Deirdre shouted at the grave robbers from behind the shorter Havok and Benny.

"Are you unaware of what is going on? The God of Worms now rules over the city, and he does not care whether you are a grave robber or a child. You will die all the same, only to rise again in a foul mimicry of life. Lower your weapons and let us light the brazier to ward off this threat, lest you face the same fate. Our time grows short."

While she tried to sound convincing and patient, her agitation was clearly showing, and her voice shook with barely suppressed rage.

OOC:
Persuasion check: 1D20+3 = [1]+3 = 4
Uh yeah. So much for parlay. I think Deirdre just wants to get in there and bash some heads.
