[IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

Alara nodded at the kobold. "I know it's a risk," the noblewoman replied. "But Garra - he kidnapped a child and enslaved those warforged. He needs to be held to account."

"But you're right,"
she added to the kobold. "We need to be smart about this." She pondered a moment, then a dark smile crossed her face. "Do you think we could hire one of the urchins out there as a runner to get word to Alden d'Orien? If he got word that Garra is getting on a lightning rail - a House Orien lightning rail - I expect the station would be flooded with Orien troops looking to lay hands on the monster. Or, if they were too late, he'd be pulled off the car at the next station."

Her hand slid to her pocket, where she still had her Orien token. That, and a few names and facts, would surely get a messenger past the gate.

Rotom's eyes lit up at the suggestion.
"House Orien also runs the Couriers Guild. That should practically guarantee a confrontation with the criminal."

The kobold digs through her bags looking for her stationary supplies while continuing to think out loud.
"But that does beg the question, how should we prepare for a showdown, should Garra try to run or worse? Do we have time to acquire any last minute supplies or services? A quick stop by a House Jorasco healer would be cheaper than picking up a potion, if we can."

"I don't know," Alara admitted. She glanced at Korra and Ogham, but quickly decided they would not know Sharn any better than she did.

"Come on," she told the others. "Let's go up to the skyboat landing and see if we can convince one of them to take us to Jorasco and carry a message to d'Orien's estate."

OOC: I don't mean to rush this along too far - Anyone got any better ideas?

Ogham likes the idea of sending a message to the Orien estate, and his mind goes to the little mouse he met there. He quickly dismisses the idea of sending a mouse, or another small animal, however, because how could such a creature deliver an important message, now that his magic is drained?

The strong but usually silent warforged nonverbally shows his eagerness to get this plan going by moving to the door, motioning for everyone to follow him to the skyboat landing.

The Plumbers climb the stairs back up to the skycoach platform on the top of the tower. The skycoach is chained to the platform, apparently off duty, a human male lounging inside eating. A diverse group of civilians passes through the area.

Alara eyed the skycoach and its off-duty pilot, but decided it was their best available option. She strode over.

"Excuse me, good sir," she said. "I can see that you are taking a no doubt well-earned rest. But would you be interested in cutting it short and making some good coin for your trouble?"

Despite his earlier idea, Ogham looks around for birds or other small animals. They may be able to carry a note.

Sometimes it is easy to forget the simple options when there are magical ways to do something.

He does not interfere with the negotiations this time, knowing that his social skills are less optimal than those of Alara. Perhaps even those of Korra.

Rotom finishes writing the missive.

To the Esteemed Lord Alden d’Orien,

In regards to the situation we had previously discussed, we have located the problem on the 1400 Lighting Rail leaving today for Wroat. We understand that House Orien Prides itself on it's timetables, however a delay to enable the cleanup would be prudent, as it would prevent the general public from catching wind of the mess. If such a delay is not possible, then a cleanup crew in route to Wroat would be advised.

Sincerely,
Discreet Investigation and Security Services.

The kobold hands the letter over to Alara. "I hope this gets the point across."

The skycoach pilot looked up from eating his Sharn wrap, a typical street food bought from vendors throughout the city, sometimes on mobile carts. The Plumbers remembered seeing a wrap stand in one of the shops on the stairs. A piece of Thranish flatbread, this one was stuffed with a typical southern Brelish spiced pork and orange peppers with what looked like sharp Karnathi ved cheese, and Alara caught a hint of Aundairian wood-nut sauce to give it a sweet kick with the spice, typical Sharn Fusion. He wiped his hand clean on his trousers and picked up a mug of iced tal, taking a sip before answering.

“How much coin we talking?” he asked Alara, taking another bite from his wrap, then wiping a bit of wood-nut sauce from his chin with a cloth. “I’ve still got,” he looked up at the muggy sun, “about half an hour on my lunch break.” He indicated the papers on the seat beside him, the Korranberg Chronicle, Sharn Inquisitive, Breland Ledger, and the Voice of Breland.

Alara nodded to Rotom, "Thank you," she offered, before returning her attention to the pilot.

"Ten sovereigns," she offered. "And, I expect, the gratitude of a scion of a dragonmarked house."

Before he leaves, she will tell him to speak directly to Lord d'Orien or his majordomo, and to say, "You forgot to thank the host of the party your son attended." That, combined with the letter, should be enough to let him know what's up.
