D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

OOC: Huzza!

Rodrigo carefully cleaned his blades - those things were foul and probably carried diseases.

"Master Dellrack, are you ok? You gave me a scare there. But thank you, nice shooting - and same to you Miss Imogen, those shots were capital. Brother Chrysago and Harb, great work covering us, it was very dicey for a moment! Now... shall we take a quick break to patch ourselves up or carry on? Why would that hut be filled with zombies? Why did they come out now?"

Turning to the little one, he added

"Thank you boy - you have courage, but little sense - had we fallen, you would have been next. Why did you help us?"

OOC: short rest would spruce the party up I think?

"We win!" said Louzo, seemingly oblivious to the danger he was in. His white teeth shone on his round face, "All the living must fight the dead."

OOC: A short rest is available if you want it. Mayni will awaken during that time. Perfectly okay to search the immediate area (and both huts) while taking it, too.

OOC: Just so long as she isn't in danger of passing. Harb was planning to rush her back to the city proper, probably with Louzo for a guide to a healer.

Harb straightened up and cleaned his scythe with a scrap of cloth, which he promptly discarded. Looking around the area he speaks. "It seems we found the missing people the hard way."

Kneeling next to one of the corpses, he examines it for telltale clues as to it's original cause of death.

Squirrels are evil!

Miss Imogen begins to gather what arrows she can, but many of them, lodged in the corpses which are again corpses have a viscous block fluid on them that disgusts her. She breaks those, repulsed by the foul scent. She examines the hut from which the zombies had come, and stands guard during the short rest.

OOC: take fighter healing action thingy ... second wind?

Rodrigo added to the child "Ah, you are brave and you know who to fight! You will be a great warrior one day... but you have to stay alive until then! Try to leave the fighting to adults until then ok?"

Kneeling down to get to eye level with the boy, he added

"... but let's see if you have a good brain along with that brave heart. We want to know what happened here. Can you answer the Brother's question? He is a holy man, and investigating these events is his calling"

"I be fine, just need a minute to catch me breath is all." the dwarf says as he bends over and sucks in air. "My thanks and gratitude to you noble Chrysagon, I owes you more than all I have, but by my oath I will someday repay you."

Dellrak helps the others in their search of the huts and bodies, getting back one of his arrows in the process. "Do ye know if'n any o'these be the men we seek?" he asks pointing to the bodies with the arrow in hand.

"You're welcome, Master Dellrak.

I was told one day, if the only prayer you ever say in life is 'Thank you"... that is enough.
But don't thank me, because I did nothing. Kelemvor wanted you alive... I was only his arm. "

OOC: having technical problems, let's hope this time it will post

"My grandmother told me stories of the time before Kelemvore - we are all very fortunate to now have a just man as god of the dead. And to have one of his servant among us" Rodrigo tipped his hat.

He then started looking around, looking for clues. He also kept an eye out - whoever might be behind this could be watching from a distance. These zombies hadn't appeared in a hut randomly....

"Well I'm stumped... Master Dellrak, can you make sense of these tracks? My woodcraft is not what it should be...."

Harb examined a body: Just as he suspected, it showed signs of having once been a local chultan (similar dress, etc). It's skin had been blackened and dessicated, it's eyes yellowed, and it's teeth and nails grown unnaturally long by the foul ritual that had turned it into this undead horror.

If Miss Imogen thought that collecting her arrows was an unpleasant job, then she was truly disgusted by the conditions of the shed. These zombies had been stored there for perhaps a few days, and they had clawed and chewed at the interior walls. Worse, someone had fed them live animals, and the bits were strewn everywhere. The smell was terrible.

On being asked to try to identify the bodies, Louzo shrugged and shook his head. While he had been very brave slinging stones at the creatures, he appeared unwilling to look too closely at them. It was true that they had been twisted beyond easy recognition; if he did know any of them the knowledge would probably be quite traumatic.

Mayni awoke when Harb went to check on her. She was weak and shaken, but alive and grateful. She bravely took a look at the bodies, wrinkling her nose at the smell of them. "None of these are your man Derio" she said, "They be from the Old City, missing a week or more."

Chrysagon had to help her into the larger hut, where she sat on the bed sipping water. The hut was modestly furnished, with only the basic needs for living. However there were many signs of wizardry: A writing desk with an inkwell and pen; scribbled diagrams on parchment; plant and animal-based components hanging from the ceiling. Everything was damp from the humidity and smelled faintly of mildew. A letter stood out among the mad scribblings on the desk:
