D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

FitzTheRuke

Legend
As Dellrak suggested, beyond sticking one's fingers in a skull-like mouth and pulling (first one way and then another, if the first didn't work), there was little in the way of evidence to support the strongly-held theory of a hidden door. To further add to the potential confusion, about halfway up the same hall, a similar group of skull-head carvings were clustered amongst the carvings there, making it just as possible that another secret door was there along the wall. Or not.

Ghorukk the orc stood ready, stoically expecting to be ordered to risk his fingers.
OOC: Poor thing

Myrral fiddles with the mouths around both ends of the corridor while the heavily armored companions dragged themselves around the rope.
Using minor illusion to create a seeming of a hand reaching into the mouths and then using actual magical hand for the same he flails a bit around the insides.

He even lights a candle and has the mage hand carry it inside the statues mouth so he can see inside.

Whenever he tries to pull something in the mouth, he is careful not to be in direct line staying several feet to the side and next to the wall, ready to jump toward the exit.

Legend
While the jaw-bones (carved of stone, and not actual bone) appeared to be able to shut, they were also able to be pulled open. On full open-mouth extension, they clicked, rotated, and were able to be used as handles to pull open a large door. The group did this first with the south door, which revealed the room that had been seen through the crystal window: A vaulted tomb overgrown with moss and creepers. The door opened behind one of six thrones set in niches (two each on three walls). On each throne slumped a desiccated corpse wearing a black mask made of papier-mâché and feathers. Between two throne niches, on the wall to the right, two large statues of bears gripped a five-foot-diameter bronze disk embossed with a dozen glaring eyes. In the middle of the room, a stone sarcophagus rested on a stepped dais.

Before entering the room, the group tried the other skull-handles, and pulled open a door that revealed a staircase that descended into darkness.

Miss Imogen liooks in the room, and snuffs. "Best go downstairs. Whatever this place is, whztever evil it contains, this room is not the source of the Curse."

“Well, ain’t this a kick in the stones,” Dellrak mused as he eyed the tomb through the hidden door, then the staircase into darkness. Keeping an eye out for traps or other dangers, the dwarf squeezed his way past the throne. (to O35)

Chrysagon agreed that the room would not hold any answers but as he eyed the stairs leading down into darkness, he suggested they should check out the other corridors on this level before they venture down.

Legend
Dellrak pushed his way past the throne, careful not to disturb the corpse seated upon it. His dwarven vision caught subtle movement in the dim light - the eyes that were on the bronze disk held by the bear statues shifted, as if looking to see if something had disturbed the tomb. It seemed that stuck as they were on the bronze disk, their field of vision was limited, and they could not quite look directly at him from where he currently stood.

Hey Dellrak, Chrysagon shouted. If you really must enter the room, grab one of the masks and put it on. You never know, it could protect you in some way.
Chrysagon popped his head into the room and sniffed. Sometimes he could smell evil even when he could not see it.

OOC: Chrysagon uses Divine Sense for the first time, I think. Let's see if there's any Celestial, fiend, or Undead (and where they are located) within 60 feet that is not behind total cover!

Dellrak eased back out of the room to rejoin the others. “Corpse on the throne,” he said. “Some weird eyes on the bronze disk. Thought they were tryin’ t’ luik at me. Creepy as the hells.”

He glanced at Chrysaogon to see if the paladin sensed anything.
