"Do we not even want to consider these steps going down?" asks Miss Imogen from the other side of the room, pointing to the staircase behind her.
"SSlave passages are usually less guarded than the main thing, misssus. And sssecret passagesss too." Ussal offers, knowing that most of the secret passages are more often for the society elite than hiding slaves from view. After all, if you don't see them you cannot torture them.
"And dungeon masssterss usually don't want to remember to skip sssecret tilesss all the time. It may be a safer way."

Chrysagon looked at Ussal and shrugged. Famous last words, he thought but said out loud that he was with Imogen this time. Let's go down the stairs. At least we know that the door to the passage was not trapped. He then exited the same way they entered to join Imogen. Come on, he said to the others.
Miss Imogen nods at Chrysagon. She's tired, and snappish, but is pleased to have been heard. She heads to the staircase behind her, and as she peers into the inky darkness of the descent realizes both that she should lead the way, but also that she needs a torch.
She retrieves one and lights it, and then picks up her bow in her other hand. Holding the torch up, she begins her descent, at least to see where this staircase leads.

Myrral looks between the paladin and the snake-man, his loyalty to the paladin and dislike of yuan-ti implied uses of such passages warring with his curiosity and the logic Ussal provided.
In the end, he follows the rest of the group, motioning for yuan-ti to join them.

After some discussion, the group headed for the secret stairway, leaving the southern hidden door behind, unopened.
The stairs descended at a long but shallow decline, some thirty feet down (but nearly twice that going forward. About halfway down, it became apparent that there was a flickering light at the bottom - likely firelight, and the sounds of hissing, thumping and clanging. Though he was a traveller by nature, and had been gone very long from home, Dellrak recognised the sound immediately from deep in his soul: It was the sound of a forge. An active forge, being worked by strong hands.
