D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

Wrok the broodguard acknowledges Yassah's instructions with a brief nod, then moves back towards the others. A bit slowly, in case the higher caste yuan ti meant for him to go the other way.

He doesn't touch the staff, intrigued though he is by Ghorrak's silent explanation.

Myrral looked at the monster. "Casting goat-headed creature. Too much like that demon..."
He quickly thinks about what he knows of demons, but in a very shamanic way. After a quick murmured sing-song
"Orcus! Evil Orcus!
He's the god (well, demon) of Undeath.
From the plane of Tanathos,
Seeks to rule over both you and me.

Hates us, hates everything,
Performs deeds that are horrifying,
Alive and yet nullifying

Orcus! Evil Orcus!
He's the goat-headed mugger,
The Scourge of Planes
He is an evil bugger!"

Myrral looks at the party.
"This might be a cultist of Orcus...and I probably shouldn't mention the name so freely in a place like this. Or a demon...bulezau, I think a traveler called it. I know things from far away, but I don't know it but through the stories of my people or the travelers"

After looking at the body, he carefully takes the staff from it. "We can deal with this later. No one is using a staff as a weapon, but tomb guardians and many other creatures require magic weapons to hurt. So this is good to have unless it is cursed. Let's move on."

Tracking the skeleton: 1D20 = [18] = 18 - DM, pick what you think most appropriate
+3 survival (not sure it is applicable in the artificial hallway)
+6 perception (looking for tracks)
+1 religion (as it relates to undead)

With this particular hallway clear of debris (it would have been a much different thing, one floor up, where grasses and fungi grew on muck-covered spots around the dungeon) it was impossible to tell at the crossroads which way the skeleton had gone. Especially hard given that the hallway arced out of sight after no more than ten feet. Without travelling forward (and to do that, a direction needed to be chosen).

OOC: I might be able to use Myrral's roll, depending on which way you go, but there's no sign here. So pick: 1) Up-Forward; 2) Up-Left (past the body); 3) Up-Right; 4) Give up and go back to the stairs. I have never had a problem with splitting the party. I know! Most D&D people think that it's insane!

The hallway went on for about a hundred feet. It was very difficult for Ghorrak, and anyone following him, to tell the difference between one part and the next. It "felt" at all times as if down were down, and everywhere else was the part going up. On the other hand, the hallway seemed to ever-so-slowly narrow, until finally, he came to another crossroad. It looked much the same as the other one, only half the size. Like the crossroad before it, the hall went straight on the left (west), and arced upward in the other three directions.

OOC: Everyone following him or is anyone staying behind?

Yassah

Yassah shrugged and followed up beyond the body. He felt nothing for the corpse. Clearly an unworthy opponent. All these hallways looked the same. Very frustrating.
"Isss this a trick? Are we traveling in circles?" he angrily asked no one in particular.

"Ssshould we mark the wallss to not get lost?"

Chrysagon, who had gone eastwards for 10-15 ft, decided to come back to the crossroad and watch the others disappear up the slope beyond the body. He decided to keep watch in case the tomb guardian would appear.

Ghorrak nodded, marking the walls was a good idea. He patted himself down and then held his hands up, hoping to signal that he had no way of marking the walls. Using rope or string could also work, so he mimed using a lasso then tying it around himself. Then he looked around for any clues for where to go or what was happening.

OOC: I'm not really sure of what to do here, and Ghorrak doesn't have a lot of useful skills or equipment for this situation, so if someone else wants to take point I'd be ok with it. The best I've got right now is to mark the walls and use the rope like Theseus used string in the Labyrinth

The second crossroad looked the same as the first, only half the size. For a moment, it was considered (by some) that it was possible that it was the same crossroad, but that the travellers had grown larger while travelling in some sort of loop. This theory was discounted when it was discovered that Chrysagon had remained behind, and was not here in the smaller version. Nor was the ram-headed corpse.

Ropes were passed around and looped to join people together. Someone produced something to mark the walls with.

OOC: I will need a direction at the second crossroad. You travelled northward when you turned left and went past the corpse. So now "forward" is north. Left would be west, etc.

I'm not really sure of what to do here.
OOC: To be fair, we reached a rather strange bit of the adventure right when you joined, and the other players were already starting to get a little directionless. No offense, gang, but we are treading water a bit. I hold myself equally responsible! Lets see if we can push forward.
