D&D 5E [IC] THE CURSE OF AMBERSTAR

Harfik Human Monk

OOC: My understanding is that Harfik has already tied off the rope. If that is NOT the case he will use his action to tie off the rope and remain where he is. If that is the case he holds his action for any sign that the beings up here aren't interested in being peaceful and attacks if they are hostile. with every intent to end them as quickly as possible using Flurry of blows. If the first target dies and the other is close enough he will move onto that one.
[sblock=So Many Attacks]Full attack action w/ flurry of blows: 1D20+6 = [12]+6 = 18

I don't know the AC so I don't know what hits or what doesn't. But if the first starts he reacts with blinding speed lashing out with hands and feet.

Harfik hesitates for just a split second, trying to decide if he should hold the landing or help his allies in the shaft.

He steps out into the open and addresses the beings in front of him. "I mean you no harm. I am here to help, to talk to the Teraphim about lifting the curse on this land."

Tink falls heavily over another of the Teraphim, bringing him to the elevator's roof with his massive form. The Teraphim falls down, harassed by the machine's claws and teeth - desperately trying to get rid of it!

With the rope already fixed, Harfik looms over the scene, waiting for the right moment to surprise his enemies. Alas, with a hurt warrior and a fallen companion, the Terpahim soldiers realize their chances of victory are dismal.

"Wait!" - one of them suddenly shouts, his voice muffled through the mask. "Hold the charge, everyone!" - he commands, lowering his weapon with caution. Around him, a fallen companion, a bruised soldier and a confused air born ally struggle to get their bearings once more.

"I mean you no harm. I am here to help, to talk to the Teraphim about lifting the curse on this land."

The only lucid unit - apparently the unit's leader - glances around, trying to figure out whether to believe the monk or not. Deeply, he knows he has no choice. Only the duelist now facing an enraged Aanzu shifts is attention from the prince to the she-wolf Lyllie, and back to the prince. Tink holds a raised claw, waiting for a command from his creator.

"Wait, Tink! Talk fast warrior. Aanzu, peace for the moment!" Thulwar quickly injects into the pregnant pause.

Icosa feels...relief?...when the combat shows signs of abating. He is not sure if he is loyal to the Teraphim, but available data suggests he will need their cooperation to achieve his goals. Such cooperation would likely be easier to gain by means other than coercion.

He moves forward, cannon extended from his shoulder but not currently locked onto a target.

"Teraphim. We have questions. We are not here to attack you or your people. I request that you cease hostilities."

EVERYONE

Hidden behind the heavy armor, their reactions are nearly impossible to read. Their leader makes an active effort to change his stance, remaining on-guard, but showing relief from war-like intentions.

"We mean you no harm as well. But we can't let you follow through this shaft! We locked the area because...."

The flourished, old-fashioned speech form the captain's mouth is suddenly cut short by a deafening crashing sound coming from above! Shards of the drywall used as cover by Harfik fall through the shaft bashing against its walls. Up above, the dragging sound makes a single, last effort, and suddenly a large tentacle appears at the opening, agitating itself in light and electricity! It's soon followed by a second one, and a third, swinging around and trying to reach the elevator area!

"DON'T LET IT TOUCH YOU! WE MUST LEAVE!" - the Teraphim leader points down through the opening.

"WE CAN'T TAKE THEM WITH U..." - the one under Tink screams in return!

"QUIET, SOLDIER! MOVE, EVERYONE! WE GOTTa GO DOWN QUICKLY! IF IT TOUCHES EVE ONE OF US, WE'RE DOOMED!" - from the tips of the tendrils, razor-like hands come out, desperate to grab on to anything that counts!

[Ok, you have a turn before the things reach down to you! They're long and the dragging sounds persist. Odds are it can - and will - increase its own reach, possibly matching climb speed]

"We will not leave our wards, Teraphim. Go or stay and help, but we're not leaving before them! Miners, to lower level now! Embla! Tink! Get that tentacle!"

As the metal monster moves away, Thulwar looks at the leader of Teraphim soldiers.
"Acid of fire?" he asks nodding toward it.

Even before the answer comes, deft hands are mixing and matching content into a flask, waiting for just that last component before throwing it up onto the tentacle.

OOC: Tink is att +6/ dmg 2d6+5 - hopefully doomed on touch means some disease to which the machine is immune. If not...:( he buys us some time.

Harfik Human Monk

Harfik jumps away from the tentacles, grabbing the rope and sliding down to join the others.

"Lead the way, we will make sure the stranglers make it."

Harfik looks coldly at the Teraphim captain. "We will help each other and all live then. Lead the way and I will make sure no one falls behind."

Harfik speaks to Aanzu. "Please stay by this one's side to make sure we do not loose him." And points to the captain. Making no attempt to hide the fact that he is trying to get the deadly fighter close to the Teraphim, just in case this is a double cross.

Aanzu stands down just long enough for the diplomacy to take place, crouching low and ready to pounce. Being so focused the words exchanged do not register, but when the strange tentacle appears, the dragonborn prince knows it is the bigger threat.

Realizing that battle against it would only stand a chance if they all attack it and seeing none of the others do so, Aanzu lets go of his battle trance.

Harfik is speaking to him. ”Please stay by this one’s side to make sure we do not loose him”

Aanzu growls, both confirmation and angry at what he feels sounds like a command. He did say “please”, though, and not even a prince can deny the logic.

So Aanzu, his sword in one hand and ready to use it again, sticks close to the Teraphim commander.

EVERYONE

The miners are led down first, stumbling forth, back into the elevator. Lyllie makes sure they follow suit, chasing one of the Teraphim soldiers downwards. The Teraphim glances over his own shoulder, and despite his concealing armor, Lyllie feels his admiration, as if his gestures could translate his emotions to the point of perfection.

At the platform, Tink leaps up, ready to strike the tendrils descending from the roof. The machine clings to the wall, raising a claw and swinging at the enemy! The attack cuts deep, releasing one of the things from the main mass. It falls down at the elevator's rof, leading the Teraphim captain to leap back!

"Call it back, CALL THE MACHINE BACK!" - he cries in concern as a set of two tendrils go for Tink. One is repelled by the machine, while the other reaches the hook, twisting around it.

"Use acid! And prayers!" - the captain sprays up, shooting the whole area as he tries to free Tink from the enemy. On his side, the Teraphim brought down by Tink comes back to his feet, preparing his own crossbow to shoot once more.

Aanzu stands down just long enough for the diplomacy to take place, crouching low and ready to pounce.

His opponent stands down, and even though his face is hidden, Aanzu feels his pride as if it ran out of the soldier's body. "Later, dragon." - he says, postponing the fight, but aching in rage and arrogance. He goes for the crossbow with a quick roll and, on his knees, begins shooting upwards as he makes his way to the elevator's hatch.
"Please stay by this one's side to make sure we do not loose him."

Unwillingly, the captain moves forward. Two of his men went down, as well as the miners. Lyllie still runs around, doing the shepherd's work as she pushes everyone towards the escape route. Harfik glances at the captain, sensing his resentment coming from a hurt pride. The sensation hits the monk as if he could see the captain's face.

Up above, the tentacles soon become a black mass, pin-pointed here and there by lights and flickers. It fills the shaft with an astounding speed, as if ready to swallow anything on its path!

[Ok, each character that remains at the delay group gets to roll attacks in advantage against an AC of 6. Depending on the amount of damage, you can delay the creature. For those who go down, a test of acrobatics against DC 15 will do, allowing to build advantage against the moving mass. Lyllie must be carried, roll against 20 or reverse to humanoid shape, if she chooses to descend.]
