D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

OOC: Let's wait to see if that survival roll gives a hint about Bert's direction before we take off. I'd hate to go the wrong way and lose him.

After a brief look you don't see any sign of anyone other than Derendil going toward the village and several creatures moving away.

"Thank you, priest," Surana says as Orsik heals Topsy's wounds.

After taking a brief and fruitless look for Bert's tracks, Surana crouches down to pick up Sarith.

"Let's get out of here. Bert's as blind as I am in this pit. Either he's stumbling around in the dark, leaving an easy trail, or he's got a torch. Either should help us find him."

Glancing around at the remains of the chaos, she refuses to mention the third possibility, but it hangs palpably in the air as they set off.

Ezraen nods to Orsik, "My thanks to Moradin, friend."

He moves to Sarith and lays hands on the drow, pouring the last of the healing light that he has left.

OOC: Heal Sarith 1 hp. At least he will be conscious and though he may need help, he can at least walk.

"Eldeth, you are our scout, lead us to safety, and keep an eye out for Bertram's tracks."

OOC: I think maybe Surana and Eldeth should be up front, so that maybe Surana can give Eldeth advantage on the check, presuming that we are using a light source. Ezraen will bring up the rear and maybe Erevan can be in the middle, since he has range options.

OOC: Yeah, no reason to change the marching order we've been using. Seems to be working for us.

Sarith can go somewhere in the middle. I was kinda purposely carrying him KO'd. If he took damage before, he'd just revert to death saves and we'd have Orsik to stabilize him again. At 1 hp, he's now one good whack away from insta-death. So in the middle with some meat-shields around is probably best, and hopefully we can get far enough away for a short rest & some HD use soon.

OOC: Sorry, I wanted him awake, so that one of us would not be necessarily carrying him if trouble arose. Keep him in the middle, so that hopefully if we run into anything we are either attacked from in front or in back.

You get about 200' or so from the camp (about to the crossroads) when you hear "pssssst! Psssst! Surana!"

It sounds like Bertram and is coming from the shadows made by a neaby rock formation.

Surana holds up a hand to Eldeth in a "wait here" gesture, then steps lightly toward the rocks.

"Bert?" she asks quietly. "Are you ok?"

"Umm...Yes?...No?...I don't really know. That thing showed up and next thing I know I'm here. Not sure where here is but I don't think I'm coming out! Arrghh!! What's that!...Ooo...I'm okay. My brain...I keep seeing things."

Bertram has crawled under a rock and has found a small cave. It actually looks like an abandoned animal den of some sort. There are bones and shells of strange creatures but it doesn't appear to have been used for a very long time.

Bert doesn't seem entirely okay. Like Shuushar and Drum he is kind of in a daze, unsure of what is happening and perhaps having hallucinations. He's not in much of a mood to come out of his cave.
