D&D 5E [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

"You think there might be something that can help us survive in the Underdark?" Ezraen ponders a second, "You have a point, but I hope that it is worth the risk!"

The half-drow takes a firm grip on one end and helps Erevan carry it to the door on the upper (?) floor to head back to the guard tower.

OOC:
The entrance to the tower is the lowest floor (and Captain Shoor's quarters). You are on the second floor (Ilvara's quarters) and the top floor is a place none of you have been before. All you know is some horrible things have gone in there. So are you guys heading up (to the unknown room) or down (to Shoor's room and out.

Yes---if you've seen a map illustrating the tower from the side it shows the entrance at the top...I mis-described it at some point and have just left it as that...so the entrance is at the bottom and that is Shoor's chamber.

OOC: Ezraen seems like he wants to leave. He kinda seems to appear as though, Mission accomplished! and taking the chest is already pushing it for him. Survival seems to overtaking his curiosity. Though, it might not take much to convince him to check out the upstairs...

OOC: so which way do you want to go? I think the ball is in Erevan's court. Ezraen has grabbed one side of the the chest and is waiting for Erevan. Erevan can either pick it up and start to exit the tower or he can start upwards to have a look at the room above.

Don't think I'm leading you one way or the other.

OOC: I didn't necessarily mean we should take the chest with us. We'll be passing it on our way out, I imagine. Was just thinking out loud.

Erevan goes for the chest and is about to help Ezraen carry it, when he stops and says, "Wait, we can leave it here and grab the chest when we're done. Or perhaps I can find some tools in this tower to open it and see if it contains anything useful. Either way, if we face an enemy in here, carrying a big trunk would not help us defend ourselves much. What do you say, leave it and explore the floor above?"

Ezraen subconsciously chews his bottom lip as he mulls the decision for just a second, then says, "Ok, but we do this quickly. We can't leave the others too long!"

Rickety stairs lead up into the ceiling. The darkness beyond would be impenetrable to human eyes but to the eyes of the elves you can make out vague shapes. Before what you see even registers in your mind, your feral instincts take hold. You feel your heart leap into your throat and a nearly paralyzing fear run down your spine. After a moment your conscious mind clears through the fog of terror and you realize that you are looking upon an enormous spider there in the dark.

Once the initial wave of terror passes you realize that you are looking upon a statue of a spider. It looms about 10' above the floor of the chamber. You have not yet entered.

OOC: Monsters and NPCs up next...I hopefully can get the posted tonight

Having delayed one spider with a bolt from her heavy crossbow, Surana watches in horror as two others converge on Evendur. The speed of their attacks is blinding...

...at the first attack he raises his shield and manages to block it. The second spider comes in low but the paladin is quick with his foot and kicks it back. All the while he continues hacking at the webs around the still form of the orc warrior.

OOC: nice...crit!

With one mighty sweep he slices through the webs. The spiders hesitate in confusion as the body of the orc, with the paladin hanging on, swings down below the web and out of sight. Surana waits, expecting...hoping...the hear something to give her a sign that they made it, but the droning and screaming of the demons and the constant white noise of the waterfall make that impossible.

With a grimmace she returns her mind to the tasks at hand.

There are still 6 spiders. One is wounded pretty badly, the others are all in good shape. The elf and the half drow disappeared into the tower not long ago and the drow patrol (what was left of it) ran out of sight.
