Surana's breath caught in her throat as Evandur and Ront disappeared beneath the webs. She barely knew either of them, but down here, that didn't matter. Down here, there was only Us and Them.
Attempting to restrain her mounting rage, she gritted her teeth and aimed for the wounded spider. Your blood for ours.
The spider rears up on it's four hind legs and the bolt slams into the underside of it's caripace, toppling it over backwards and into the hole in the webbing left by Evendur and Ront, sending waves through the web. The rope is still attached to the first bolt that hit it and as it falls it starts pulling the coils that are left inside the tower through the window. (ooc: someone can try to grab it...but that will probably hurt).
The other two spiders are frightened by this and move back to the safety of the cliffs and out of sight. The other three congregate around the still form of the drow that fell into the webbing. The largest of the three has wrapped him up like a mummy and is defending its prize from the other two that are lingering nearby.
Orsik loads another bolt. Downstairs you can hear the others. It sounds like Derendil is restraining Eldeth. Sarith is telling everyone else to don whatever armor they can, gear up and grab whatever food and water they can carry. He says water is most important..."out there, you never know what dangers lurk in or around whatever water you can find or if it is even safe to drink. Food can be found."
OOC:
I think at this point what is going on in Ilvara's tower and elsewhere are not really dependent upon one another...Erevan and Ezraen are (at least for now) out of initiative and depending on what Surana does, she may be as well. So feel free to act independently of the turn order for now.
Ezraen looks around looking for anything that might help them out in the wilds of the Underdark. Never having been in the native lands of his biological father, all the young half-drow knows are tales from miners and spelunkers. Every once in a while, he looks up at the statue, half expecting it to come alive at any moment!
OOC:
Do we see anything that we can use in the room? This room is giving me the creeps.
Erevan would keep looking from his place just outside the room. You never know.
Erevan looks at the room, and particularly the spider statue, with dread. "That is the evil drow goddess," the elf whispers, as if trying to avoid the attention of the deity. "At least I think so. Never seen her depicted before. We should be careful."
He glances over the room to see if there is anything useful to be found. If not, Erevan will urge Ezraen to move to another room.
Ezraen starts moving into the room as Erevan looks on watching for threats. Your eyes adjust and you can begin to make out some details. The floor is covered by dark mats covered by a pale web pattern. A broad pedestal occupies the middle of the room and upon it is the very realistic and very disturbing demonic spider statue. A pile of cushions covers a portion of the floor opposite the entrance to the room. Ezraen notices that on the pedestal there is a flat open area before the statue that is probably for ritual sacrifice. Two heavy silver candlestick holders holding unlit black candles. On a small shelf are 2 silver daggers and various tools useful for sacrifice and torture (pliers, picks, small chains, etc). Dark stains mar the pedestal, the shelf and the mats below. Then Ezraen notices the "spider's" eyes. Even in the dark of the room they glisten and flicker from the tiny amount of light coming into the room.
But then you are both shaken out of your morbid curiosity by movement. Too late you notice rapid movement coming from the pile of cushions towards the paladin! A giant spider, smaller than the ones outside but still disturbingly large (it's body about the size of a very large house cat or smallish dog but with it's legs fully spread about 6' in diameter)...

OOC:
regardless of how init turns out, no one go yet. Both characters are surprised by the spider. I'll post in the OOC thread a reminder of how surprise works. I probably won't be able to play out the spider's turn until this evening...oh...and I messed up the rolls....the room is dark so your perception should have been at disadv anyway and I used the stealth skill for a normal spider (+4) not a normal one (+7)...sorry...in a rush this morning before departing for a hockey weekend....so...a bit of a cliff hanger until I can get online later this evening at the hotel...enjoy! (I don't know the result of the init rolls as I type this)
sorry...a couple of typos above. I'm afraid to edit it because there are rolls...so the two candlestick holders are on the pedestal. The shelf is just below the flat area and the candlestick holders (all are covered in dried blood). In the ooc block should read "I used the stealth skill for a normal spider (+4) not a giantone (+7)."
Ok, remember that we would NOT have had disadvantage on our PER checks because of our Darkvision, however that freakin spider rolled like a beast, so it wouldn't have mattered. Go ahead and take your attack on me, and let this party get started! AC: 15; hp: 8/11
