D&D 5E [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

Ezraen whistles low, "By Lathander's 5'o'clock shadow! I don't think I have seen a smooth operator like you in the entirety of my past life..."

OOC: Technically they should be 16s because you don't have proficiency bonus, right? Or does the dagger count as improvised tools?

OOC: @itcomeswithamap we'll start with Surana:

There is no ledge around the tower. The towers are hollowed out stalactites (hanging from the ceiling). The only way around would be to make a tough athletics check (we'll go with AC 18). The surface is smooth and angled beyond sheer.

When you come down you see Jimjar and Eldeth already have two of the remaining ropes and are heading out the SW door (which has already been reopened). Derendil and Sarith have closed the eastern door. You pull the one pin. Derendil attempts to pull another. Everyone has collected two or three waterskins, their gear and armor (no one has donned it) and whatever food they are able to carry.

He fails. "Egads! Damn my fat fingers!"

At that point, Sarith puts his hand on the hulking back of the former elf and suggests "Why not let the quaggoths onto the bridge, then drop it? Surely that will keep the spiders busy while we climb down. Let's pull out the bottom two after a couple get on the bridge. I've seen these creatures leap, but I've never seen them be able to leap far enough to be able to jump from that ledge (to the east) to that bridge (to the southwest)."

By the time Surana is done pulling the first pin Jimjar and Eldeth are our the door and tying their ropes to the bridge heads on the ledge outside. Bupiddo begins tying whatever baggage and supplies he can to the end of the rope (so he can drop it all over the ledge without losing it). Topsy and Turvy begin helping him.

Derendil tries one more time to pull the top pin and this time Sarith helps him with a dagger as a makeshift prybar.

Derendil manages to pull the second pin leaving only the two bottom ones. He looks to you, Surana, expecting you to tell him to pull the other pins now or follow Sarith's idea of dropping a couple quaggoths onto the webs.

OOC:
The circle shows where the hole is in the webs from Ront/Evendur. Jimjar and Eldeth are tying their ropes at the blue Xs. The red line is about 30'. That is the distance quaggoths would have to leap to get to the SW bridge once you drop the eastern bridge.

The chest opens. Inside you see a variety of silk garments. Hidden underneath you find the following:

- a silver chain headress set with small onyx stones
- a drawsting bag containing two small glass vials
- a small leather pouch containing a variety of coins and a moonstone gem
- another larger pouch containing what can only be spell components.
- A bag that contains any valuables and coins any PCs had on them at the time of capture.

As you begin to examine the various contents Ezraen notices the spider in the upper chamber is moving cautiously toward the opening to this room. It's probably only a matter of time before it overcomes whatever it is afraid up and makes another attempt to attack you.

OOC: There was also a chest in Shoor's chamber below where the dulcimer was. There is also a silver pitcher and pair of goblets here. I didn't know if you wanted to try to grab up any of that. I'm sure there would be a backpack or similar somewhere in here for you to throw whatever you find in to care out of here.

Ezraen says, "Let's git outta here. To the hells with the other chest, money's no good if we're dead!" He opens his pack for Erevan to load up the loot, while he keeps an eye on the spider.

OOC: We'd best skeedaddle. Ez is planning on bolting, but will not consciously leave Erevan behind.

OOC: My mistake; those circles around the towers looked like ledges to me.

After watching Derendil struggle to pull up the pin, Surana looked nervously at the bolted door, wondering how long it would hold if the quaggoths reached it. She turned back, nodding to Sarith before addressing Derendil.

"It's a risk, but Sarith is right." Behind the quaggoth, she noticed Drum still cowering quietly, and thought of how helpless he would be in the webs. "We'll all stand a better chance if the spiders have other prey. I'll stay with you, and we'll get the last two pins together."

"All right," Erevan says while grabbing the contents of the chest. "Just help me carry this stuff and we'll leave this godsforsaken place. We might need this."

OOC: Do I understand correctly that we have already obtained a backpack earlier, or do we need to go back for that?

OOC: I'm sure that among Ilvara's belongings there is a traveling bag of some sort.

OOC: Ezraen has his pack, figuring that if things went to hell, then he needed to be ready to go. That is why in my post, Ez opened his pack for Erevan to load up.

Ezraen nods in response, and the two of them head to the exit door. The half-drow listens for activity directly on the other side.

OOC: Is there a window/arrow slit in here that we can see outside through?
